  1. A problem we redditors will be all too familiar with

  2. They tried to have him arrested because he’s so gorgeous! 🥛🐮

  3. I faint sometimes if I pass a mirror and unexpectedly catch a glance of myself.

  4. Wish they’d gone into that more. It clearly did affect his early career a fair bit.

  5. Now as stupid as the headline is, credit where it’s due for the era he was in at his peak, he was some ride.

And somehow he’s aged even better.

  6. and also, too modest…

In fairness, the piece doesn’t back up that quote at all. Not great, especially when you’re putting it in quotes.

    >But I do wonder if being that handsome might occasionally have been a problem. He doesn’t get the character roles that come the way of Brian Cox or Brendan Gleeson.

    >“Ha ha! They’re coming down the road. I’d like to think they are.”

    >Brosnan remembers meeting John Huston to discuss a role in the director’s famous 1987 adaptation of James Joyce’s story The Dead.

    >“I sat there with the greatest trepidation but absolute enthusiasm and passion for the work,” he says. “And then I heard this wheezing noise – the wheezing noise of emphysema. This man walked in. This great man with his oxygen tank. And he sat down. He just looked. And he said, ‘Too handsome! Too handsome!’ Handsome is as handsome does. It can get in the way.”

So, he’s asked if being too handsome has stopped him from getting roles, he recounts a story of a director calling him too handsome and then says “Handsome is as handsome does”. I don’t know how you justify that headline at all.

  7. An Irishman?! Confidence?! Self awareness?!?!

    Never.

  8. Same problem as myself. Women would literally run from me because I’m so handsome.

  9. He was also told that his Kerry accent was too accurate

  10. Aye, you and me both Pierce. My handsomeness killed my acting career before it even got started.

  11. The last good James Bond.

I felt Bond crossed into the unbelievable/generic genre with Die Another Day though, with the ‘invisible car’.

Then Craig came along and was a poor Bond like running up steel girders in shoes and then not being out of breath.

  12. Brosnan has aged like a fine wine. The sexy bastard.

  13. Another click bait article where the headline doesn’t match the content.

The Irish Times is genuinely deteriorating. It’s happening too much, this is a bit of a canary in a coal mine scenario.

  14. “Don’t Hate Me Because I’m Beautiful”

    ~ Kelly LeBrock

  15. That’s why they invented Guinness, stops the Irish “handsome gene” from running amok…..

  16. Finally something I can relate to.

Wallets too full too, I can barely pick it up.

  17. He was fair handsome TBF. Being too ugly gets in the way too…

  18. Pierce is a handsome guy, he’s not bragging about it, just stating a fact and discussing the impact of it.

He comes across as a nice person, and a decent actor.

  19. His accent in Mobland was fucking horrendous.

    Fucking embarrassing

  20. In fact, I think he should get both parachutes, in case one doesn’t work.

  21. Not only did he not say this, he sort of squirmed out of even agreeing with it.

And tbf, he *was* Pat Mustard Level Gorgeous. A lot of my straight female friend would enthusiastically assert he still is.

Edit: “Ride the brakes off him”, was the exact phrase from one of our correspondents. More as this story develops.

  22. My mum still has a crush on him from seeing him in Remmingon Steele when I was a kid.
