Irish people have highest life expectancy in the EU

  1. Its the thing about our health system that gets no credit. All the health service headlines are about queues in A&E, but they set out a plan about 20 years ago to concentrate on increasing survival rates from the main killers, and they have been massively successful at it. We have some of the highest survival rates from the main health killers in Europe. The HSE doesn’t get any credit for it, because people (rightfully, in a way) concentrate on the awfulness of having to spend 20 hours on a seat waiting to get your broken bone seen too, but when it comes to the serious stuff we have an excellent health service – that’s the life expectancy boost.

  2. I’ve always been surprised by this considering our health care system is a complete kip in comparison to other euro countries and aren’t we the second most obese country in EU.

  3. As a nurse, i regularly see able bodied 90-98year olds. It’s crazy, i had a 95year old patient who didn’t walk with any assistance or walking aid. We’re great!!

  4. It’s because we can’t afford to die any more than we can afford to live, so we’ll have to keep going.

  5. Feck off lmaooo

Idk we’re pretty bad in the obesity category aswell as there’s still alot of smokers. I was expecting Italy to be the healthiest country in the EU.

  6. Only on r/ireland will anyone complain about having the highest life expectancy for on their continent.
