Any suggestions for a seaside day trip from London that isn’t Brighton, Southend or Margate?
I just checked how much it costs for me to commute to London from Brum.
Even with a railcard It’s between 6-8k depending on the exact route!
That’s fucking insane, it’s nearly how much I’d pay to rent in a decent house share within a much shorter commute to London.
What’s the point in having a rail network if it’s less expensive for people to move than use it??
Was looking at train costs to visit a friend who’s a few hours away. If I combine train and hotel costs, it’s literally cheaper to fly to another country and meet there.
Just one way it was going to cost on average £70 (yet randomly at certain times as low as £20-30).
Trains are supposedly greener, and economical – but they’re stupidly expensive/overpriced most of the time.
My best example was I was going to travel from my sisters to my grandparents (about a 4-5hr train trip). It was something stupid like £130 one way. I actually looked at flights and it was going to be about £50-60 cheaper to get a train to Manchester airport, fly to Gatwick (via Ireland), and then get the train to my grandparents, than a direct train…. How does that make sense?
In the end a random deal came up for the direct train for £30 something and was able to book that. But why isn’t that the price to begin with?!
No savings found from my commuter belt station. Fuck em. Glad I bought a scooter so I don’t give them a penny of my wages anymore.
A sale that does not include school holidays, so families can only have limited benefit.
Only applies to Off-peak so this is a load of tosh really hardly anyone is going to benefit from it.
Not a single ticket to London in the sale. In fact, I tried three stations and there wasn’t a fare to anywhere but random locations.
Chester to Doncaster?
25 min commute from kent to london is 6k+ a year or £32 a day even with a railcard or season ticket.
Me and some friends are going up to Glasgow to see a former uni mate, travelling from various points from the Midlands to London. Looking at the numbers, the best way I could do that would be A) Fly B) gettin the other people insured on my car and drive, doing so in shifts C) train.
Directly incentivising the absolute worst possible choice. Like giving me a tax break to buy booze and fags and punch someone on the way home.
I really don’t understand why 30minute return journeys can cost £25+
