A stretch of the Trans-Canada highway in northwestern Ontario is expected to remain closed into Saturday night after a serious crash, police say.

Highway 17 was shut down to both eastbound and westbound traffic after the two-vehicle crash east of Kenora, Ontario Provincial Police said on social media early Saturday afternoon.

Police did not provide any information on any injuries due to the crash.

OPP said the highway is expected to remain closed into Saturday night between Kimberley Road and Longbow Lake Road, a roughly two-kilometre stretch east of Kenora.

Police said there are no options to turn around once in the area and are advising drivers to use alternate routes, including Highway 17A.
