Latvian artist Diona Liepiņa has been disqualified from Supernova 2026, the country’s national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, after her entry was leaked online ahead of schedule. The revelation was made by the singer herself in an emotional video posted on social media, where she also raised serious allegations against her producer.
Liepiņa explained that she discovered the situation unexpectedly when a student informed her that her song was already available on YouTube. Under Eurovision regulations, entries cannot be released publicly before September 1st of the preceding year. Since her track had surfaced online, the broadcaster had no choice but to remove it from the competition.
Allegations of Abuse and Revenge
In her message, Liepiņa claimed that the leak was not accidental but deliberate. She accused her producer of intentionally publishing the song as retaliation after she refused to comply with his demands. According to her, this was part of a broader pattern of emotional manipulation, pressure, and intimidation.
Although she chose not to reveal his identity at this stage, she mentioned that the producer’s brother is a widely recognized musician in Latvia. The singer emphasized that her silence should not be mistaken for acceptance, but rather a decision to protect herself for now.
The Emotional and Professional Toll
The disqualification has been a heavy blow for Liepiņa, who invested months of work, creative energy, and financial resources into preparing her entry. Visibly shaken in her video, she admitted:
It all feels wasted.
Fans have rallied to her side, filling the comment sections with supportive messages. Many have urged her to disclose the producer’s name in order to prevent similar situations from affecting other artists in the future.
A Message of Resilience
Despite the setback, Liepiņa ended her statement with a message of strength, insisting that the experience, however painful, will not define her. She mentioned:
This is a harsh lesson, but also a chance to grow. No one is completely safe from betrayal, but we can rise above it and move forward. I am already planning my next steps in music.
Supernova 2026 is scheduled to take place on 14 February 2026. Latvia’s representative for Eurovision in Malmö will be decided through this process—though sadly, Diona Liepiņa will not be among the contenders this year.
