This Swedish church is moving 3 miles down the road • FRANCE 24 English

How do you move one of Sweden’s most beloved wooden churches down the road? With a little bit of engineering, a lot of prayer — and some Eurovision for good luck. The Kiruna Church — called Kiruna Kyrka in Swedish — and its belfry are being moved this week along a 5-kilometer (3-mile) route east to a new city center as part of the town’s relocation. It’s happening because the world’s largest underground iron-ore mine is threatening to swallow the town. Story by Camille Knight.

  1. About the cost. In Swedish television they said it cost around 50 million dollars, not 3 billions. It´s a little difference.

  2. Well that it was because of cracks is not true as the main reason, please do your homework. So disappointing! 😮

  3. It might seem too expensive…. "Is it really worth moving those building?" Until you read about the value in the ground in that area.
    😉

  4. The sad reality is that it has to be moved again as a new finding of iron ore has ben found under the new location.
