Sophomore defenseman Tuva Kandell will head to Switzerland Aug. 28 to 30 as one of 22 players named to Sweden’s roster for the Women’s Euro Hockey Tour. She will be one of two players making their senior national team debut for Sweden, according to Northeastern women’s hockey’s press release.
Kandell may be a defender, but she notched an impressive four goals and 16 assists with 57 shots in the 2024-25 season. Her 20 points were the most made by a Husky rookie defenseman since the 1999-2000 season. She also made 22 blocks.
Her most famous goal came against rival University of Connecticut Huskies in overtime, when she faced off against senior goaltender Tia Chan — who held a .945 save percentage that season — to win the game. Her powerful shots from meters away made her stand out as a dangerous player on both sides of the rink.
She was named to the All-USCHO Rookie Team and Hockey East’s Third Team All-Star, All-Rookie Team and All-Academic Team following her freshman campaign.
