IrishTimes is not a credible source says r/europe

  1. Its a very poor article by the IT, they don’t name the gas buyer’s who did the deals in roubles. It reads a bit like click bait and I have a paid IT sub.

  2. If its like r worldnews the mods censor what doesn’t agree with them.

Oh and the Irishtimes is not a credible source, they’re no better than any of the other British tabloids like the Sun or the Independent.

Posher language doesn’t make their adverts masquerading as news any more trust worthy. The only difference is the target demographic and maybe the size of the sheets they print on.

  3. The IT has been going down some weird rabbit holes in the last few years. I certainly wouldn’t think much of them these days

  4. To be fair if you looked at their columnists you’d see why. Anywhere cutting una mullally a cheque can’t be considered completely trustworthy

  5. Its like everyone lacks common sense. Specific countries get cut off and the reason is a lack of paying in roubles. Others were not cut off so must have either paid in roubles or are simply waiting out the feed of oil/gas they have already paid for just as Poland etc were doing before this. Its possible they have gotten direct info that the other countries paid in roubles or it may just be a guess based on them not yet being cut off.

They MAY have paid in roubles and they may not have. Only time will tell. What will be more telling is whether or not Poland etc suddenly start getting gas/oil again.

  6. It’s gotten pretty bad IMO but sadly that’s just part of a general trend in the industry. So if you were to say the IT isn’t credible you’d have to say that most newspapers aren’t credible. And you’d have a point, but nevertheless, if the mods allow articles from other newspapers it means they are being selective in their enforcement and most likely have an agenda.

  7. Fuck me you can literally post NOTHING when it comes to news on that subreddit

I’ve tried to post a load of stuff on there but according to them “It’s not a trustworthy source”

  8. Ah well if the citizens of the cou try can afford heating by paying rubles you wouldn’t blame the government’s

  9. That’s strange, I mean, isn’t it the newspaper of record for Ireland? By what standard are they judging it as not being a “credible source”? Or, is it the other reason that the source was not linked from a top-level comment? I’m not really sure what that means, to be honest, surely the source should be submitted as part of the actual post? Perhaps I’m missing something as I haven’t checked the subreddit.

Who or what decides that a newspaper doesn’t meet the standards of journalism?

  10. Haha it is like how on Wike the admins insist that the Irish Times is a neoliberal capitalist paper

  11. I was literally about to do an OP about the fact they reported Mino Raiola was dead today and whether they should be considered a reputable source any more!
