- The Midlands exists.
- The East exists.
- The West does not exist and is just hillbilly South.
- North/Midlands/South/East border is cultural and not really geographical. They don’t follow county borders very often.
- North Derbyshire and Notts are in the North.
- North Gloucs, Oxfords, Bucks, Beds are in the Midlands.
- Cheltenham is midlands, Gloucester is south, despite their close proximity.
- Lincs is simultaneously in the north, Mids and east.
- Essex is split almost down the middle.
Fight me.

Seems about right to me.
I agree. These maps often don’t split Lincolnshire but North Lincolnshire definitely feels more northern
I find this whole debate absolutely bemusing. Measure the length of the country. Divide it. That’s it.
See that line below Cumbria and County Durham?
That’s where the north starts.
Kent and Gloucestershire being in the same area feels weird.
Lemme guess, you’re from “The east”
Nope, the north line needs to move north by about 35-40 miles…
There is no way that Truro is in the same region as London. The South really ought to be split into at least two regions.
Looks superb. Nailed the Essex split too, along the A12.
Only thing I disagree with is Cambridge in the east. Cambridge is in the south
This is pretty spot on.
The weird outlier for me is Cheshire, lots of Cheshire feels like a southern county has been artificially placed in the north (lots of it is also very northern, before anyone jumps on my back)
West Country?
it’s funny that you mention that Cheltenham / Gloucester thing, in my experience it’s true, it’s odd that they see themselves as the Midlands when there are parts of Gloucester further north than the southern parts of Cheltenham!
The west country has a far better claim to being considered a different region than east anglia does imo.
Its amazing how close to the ancient borders of Wessex, Mercia, Northumberland, East Anglia are to these modern attempts.
I wouldn’t be surprised if those red lines exactly follow Watling Street.
Guy who thinks Cornwall is more culturally similar to Southeast England than northern Essex is
The North’s border is pretty geographical. The Pennines define the North. So River Dee to Humber is a good rough estimate, making a small adjustment to include North Lincolnshire . So yeah your border here is very accurate.
I mean I come from the South Yorkshire ,Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire areas that are in the north but I don’t consider myself northern . Yorkshire maybe . But not northern .
The East partition most certainly is southern.
Never really met anyone who tried to claim otherwise, except maybe a few people in the Westminster bubble.
Somerset is as different from Essex as it is from Manchester
Northamptonshire doesn’t sit right with me. It’s got more in common with Bedfordshire, Cambs and Northern Bucks than it does with Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire
Feel like you should split off a Western part too, starting from Somerset, Dorset and including Bristol.
You’re absolutely right. And M, S, and E are all The South
Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire in the midlands

Split south west and south east
Finally a map that correctly aligns north Oxfordshire with the midlands.
I laughed a lot at Hillbilly South.
Of course North Notts and Derbys are North, because they used to be part of Yorkshire. They stole them along with parts of The West Riding when creating the abomination that is South Yorkshire (doesn’t really exist).
Good work, no further notes ✔️
Honestly I’m just glad Bedfordshire got mentioned. If we were asked I suppose we’d try to claim we were east Anglia, but no one really believes that
East I approve of
The midlands is very much a thing but no parts of Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, or Gloucestershire are in it, and i’ll die on that hill. Northamptonshire is barely in it (think I’d put the northern end of it in but absolutely not the southern part)
The South West and South East are extremely different. I agree that north of Gloucester is the Midlands.
The southwest is a thing. It shouldn’t include places as obviously central as Bristol, but it’s a thing.
Nah, this is dogshit. For the North for example, It should be the southern border of Cheshire, the Northern border of Derbyshire, the southern border of South Yorkshire, and the Northern Border of Lincolnshire.
It may veer north and south if you mapped it, but it’s accurate. I’m from Manchester but live in Lincolnshire; Lincolnshire is *not* North.
Oh dear simple Simon has been at the map
Stick Northumbria in Scotland please…
You fucking plum
North / Middle / Shite…. then what’s the E for?
Where is the West ?
