  6. Ukraine has at this point, developed long range strike technologies (mostly drones) that is *equal to or better* than American systems being provided to them; the leverage the USA has on Ukraine is going to gradually taper off as this conflict goes on it would seem.

    Now he’s put himself in a position of looking like he won’t do what the US wants, which Trump will interpret as insubordination because he considers all world leaders other than Putin to be his staff.

    If he’d just used the munitions without asking for permission or publicizing what particular missiles and bombs were used, he’d have given the US administration some plausible deniability when Putin came calling on his bitch, the POTUS, to account.

    Trump is just itching to find a reason to cut off Ukraine from US and NATO support. He’ll exert whatever influence he can against any nation that supports Ukraine. So the Coalition of the Willing has to be promising to stand up to Trump’s bullying as a cohesive unit.

  24. I think at this point, its obvious that this war was a mutually-beneficial situation where the west is using Ukraine to bleed Russia into weakness. Ukraine is playing along to get western weapons.

    By playing along, I mean that from the beginning, Ukraine was limited to attacking only Russian soldiers on Ukrainian soil, even though they would have benefitted by attacking as far into Russia as was possible at the time. Such as the rail bridges, and refineries, along with ammo depots.

    I don’t remember the exact date, but there was a point where Ukraine began making serious and effective attacks on Russian soil, destroying the assets I mentioned before plus Russian aircraft. Part of this was because the Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities with aircraft were eating away at the defense missile stockpiles that Europe had been giving Ukraine.

    Destroying Russian aircraft on the ground was devastating to Russia’s long-term capabilities, since Russia’s damaged economy makes these aircraft virtually un-replicable.

    Before, Ukraine could only nit-pick at targets near the border, but now they can reach deep into Russia and the payloads are significant. Germany and Poland need to step up more than before.

    If you don’t fight Russia when they are weak, you will never fight them when they are strong. Its now or never.

    Headline version:

    * US: stop hitting Russia
    * Zelensky: I don’t need your permission!

    Actual version:

    * US: stop using our missiles to hit Russia.
    * Zelensky: That’s not relevant any more – we’re using our own missiles.

  27. and tbh, they don’t need *US weapons* to do so either; sure, maybe some of the American gear might be better on paper than some of the stuff Europe and the UK provide (I honestly don’t have a clue, tbh), but those Storm Shadow missiles sound pretty sweet and of course, they *are* neighbours with Russia, after all. I mean, sure, I could mess up Ontario pretty good with a Tomahawk fired from here in Québec, but plain ol’ rocks or Menthos+Coke would reach ’em pretty well too, you know?

    same for jets, F-16s are sweet (when backed up by all the other US toys and intel, anyway), but Eurofighters could get the job done too just as well maybe, right?

    If *I* was Zelensky, I’d be mainly prioritizing US equipment such as the Patriot system, Javelins, etc..

    But Taco won’t like it (both the strikes AND statements like this) and he will attempt another sabotage, like with Kursk operation.

    I just hope that Zel is well prepared for that.

  32. Ukraine is a Sovereign Nation. Plain and simple they can do what they need to.

  34. Zelenskyy has given Trump more than enough time to get his dad to call off the invasion. He needs to protect his people, and Trump is only there to prevent that from happening.

  39. Why would they? USA does not provide support to Ukraine anymore. USA is selling weapons to NATO.

  40. If you actually read the article, Zelenskyy is just saying that Ukraine has domestically-produced long-range weapons that it can use to strike Russia, so it no longer needs to rely on US-supplied weapons like ATACMS – which are the weapons that the USA can control the use of.

    He is not saying that he’s going to ignore US export controls, which almost all of the comments here seem to assume.

  42. Ukraine will end up being one of the most powerful countries in Europe in the next few years. The experience they are getting and the level of development of new weapons is unmatched.
