Britain can only remember seven Tory scandals at any one time

  1. 7.

Coronavirus act2020, Lockdowns, Jab mandates, Shutting down the economy, Nudge units, “vaccine passports”, supporting the invasion of Iraq.

Professional stage magicians / slight-of-hand experts would need to distract their audience with something,

    perhaps a cake.

  2. > A Downing Street spokesman said: “Your short-term memory is limited. Our capacity for scandal is infinite.

    > “Just this weekend, when a Tory defended another Tory who’s been convicted of child abuse, you completely forgot about a KGB agent’s son joining the House of Lords.

    > “That despicable prick Andrew Bridgen lied under oath? Whoops, you’ve got no recollection of why fuel prices are so high. It just seems normal to you. You’re still too f**ked off about Sir Gavin f**king Williamson. See?”

Satire, but they have a point.

Fortunately, over at [Keeping The Receipts](https://keepingthereceipts.substack.com/p/democracy-is-not-guaranteed) external backup is available in the form of lists.

For example, under [Cronyism](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1f-s1a1LKvcXnmCctd4rqlsSV_t30jcQl1miLIw702kw/edit#gid=0) you can find reminders about

    – [Labour accuses Boris Johnson of hiding meetings with Russian oligarchs](https://www.opendemocracy.net/en/labour-accuses-boris-johnson-of-hiding-meetings-with-russian-oligarchs/)
    – [Plans to cap UK MPs’ earnings from second jobs dropped](https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2022/mar/17/plans-to-cap-uk-mps-earnings-from-second-jobs-dropped)
    – [Tory chief Ben Elliot keeps links to Moscow bank](https://archive.ph/c0VXQ)
    – [Tories vote to block fellow MP Owen Paterson’s suspension in ‘grubby stitch-up](https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/breaking-tories-vote-block-fellow-25368220)

    Etc., etc., etc.

  3. Must be why the Tory’s roll out “the previous labour government” they have to keep it in the public consciousness or it would be replaced by Tory scandal #1135

  4. I don’t think there is any other plan other than to loot the country for as much as they can for as long as they can. Leave it to a Labour government to sort out.

The appeal to the worst instincts is perilous. The British people are being led step by step into utter folly. Knowledge of complicity is not easily forgotten or excused, no matter how careless the will.

  5. Only seven? At least when Thatcher was in charge the scandals were interesting. Ministers being caught with their pants down with call girls, Bondage parties, coke…

  6. You cannot ignore that they come thick and fast these days. It is only when an investigation into one comes out that you remember an old one these days. They still have not finished with the Glenfell Tower inquiry and that has been going for years now, yet you forget because of things like the PPE fiasco, Partygate or MPs’ second jobs.

  7. Are there any sites or lists of all the sleeze and scandals from the tories in the last few years?

The article may be satire but they have a point. There’s almost a story every other day that I just can’t keep up.
