In December 2022, following their Netflix documentary, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s global press secretary issued a statement clarifying that the idea that they left Royal life for privacy was a “distorted narrative” created by others.
Nevertheless, the couple voiced their exasperation at the relentless public examination they faced and insisted the endless wave of condemnation was harmful to their mental health.
In the years that followed their departure from Royal responsibilities in 2020, Harry and Meghan have sparked controversy as the Sussexes seemed far less worried about their privacy than previously believed.
Their conflicting actions were even mocked on the American show South Park, where the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were depicted as media personalities who craved privacy while simultaneously launching a ‘Worldwide Privacy Tour’.
Royal Author Tom Quinn told the Daily Mail: “If Meghan really wanted to be a private person, all she needed to do was go back to America and keep quiet – but what Meghan wants is privacy combined with world fame.”
Mr Quinn also revealed a weakness in Meghan’s televised interview with Oprah Winfrey, in which she discussed her brief period within the Firm.
He stated: “The deep danger can be glimpsed when, in the Oprah interview, Meghan is encouraged to speak ‘her truth’. Well, if we all have our own versions of the truth, then there is no truth. Speaking “‘my truth’ is just a way of ennobling what is after all just one person’s opinion.
Since relinquishing her role as a working royal, Meghan seems to have channeled much of her focus toward her independent business ventures and media endeavors. The upcoming season of With Love, Meghan is scheduled to premiere on August 26.
In her most recent Instagram upload, Meghan displayed what looked like her crafting potato chips from the ground up. She hinted at the forthcoming episode in a caption accompanying an image of the slender potato slices sizzling in oil.
With Love, Meghan launched earlier this year and blends Meghan’s love for home cooking, hosting and personal narratives with guest appearances from culinary experts and creative minds.
The second season will showcase contributions from chefs and personalities including José Andrés, David Chang, Samin Nosrat, Clare Smyth, Chrissy Teigen and Christina Tosi.
