France summons US ambassador over ‘unacceptable’ letter about antisemitism

9. Damn it’s crazy that one state is standing up to a whole country! I admire the bravery but the whole country of Europe should make a statement, don’t leave it up to only one state.

10. The irony is France is one of Europe’s most protective countries of Jews. Palestinians have been expelled from the country for antisemitism and just recently confronted fellow European country Spain over the infamous Valencia Airlines incident.

    Honestly not sure what the calculus is here.

Some potentially helpful extra context for European readers: “antisemitism” is currently Trump’s go-to made-up argument when he wants to attack a particular institution, country, etc. Don’t look for too much logic there because there is none. As the most prominent example, Trump has repeatedly insisted that major American universities (Harvard, Columbia, etc.) are anti-semitic because they have allowed campus protests that target Israel’s actions in Gaza (never mind that those same universities have staunchly supported academic ties with Israel and firmly opposed calls from student groups to divest from Israeli companies with their humongous university endowments).

    He ganged up with other G7 ambassadors and boycotted Peace celemony in Hiroshima because Hiroshima accused Israel genociding civilians.
    This is clear act of over stepping sovereignty.

22. France is summoning a lot of ambassadors lately. First the Italian Ambassador, now the American ambassador. Maybe the next one will be from Croatia.

23. It happens often in Italy, too, whenever a news story or a political event involves an Israeli or a Jewish person. The discussion can’t stay on the facts, because sooner or later, accusations of anti-Semitism arise, with the idea that this alone will “prevail” in the discussion. I find it truly unbearable, and childish.

24. France is the only Major country in Europe which has somehow managed to have a degree of an independent and sovereign policy decision making power and because of that it is always being Targeted by America .

    France is going to play a Bigger role in Europe in Multi Polar World .
