What happens in the Antarctic doesn’t stay in the Antarctic, ice-sheet modeller says • FRANCE 24

A new study published in Nature reveals ‘evidence for rapid, interacting and sometimes self-perpetuating changes in the Antarctic’. Speaking on FRANCE 24, glaciologist and ice-sheet modeller Frank Pattyn, Chair of the Belgian National Committee on Arctic/Antarctic Research, says that ‘what happens in the Antarctic doesn’t stay in the Antarctic’ and that ‘we haven’t seen all the change yet that should be induced’ by current global warming.

  1. Climate Change is real. It is not multitasking if you're not the one doing it. Focus as a measurement of mental health. Scattered disillusionment is the current rampart of the humans psyche. Our ability to focus; is both hampered and enhanced by the virtual reality and artificial intelligence programs we are all so very familiar with. Ice, ice power; ice is made of water. Ice is a natural resource. Ice is used to cool the most dangerous machinery! Ice power. Ice a s a natural resource. Understand yet? Try to focus.

  2. Since America is now a fascist state and science is being defunded, education destroyed, and the press is totally compromised, you might do well to advertise your news in the USA.

  3. the reason Antarctica is frozen is because we are currently in a major ice age
typically the Earth is ice free, year round, even at the poles

  4. Donal Dumb doesn't know What is "tipping point". He means by it as if it's like a tip that a delivery boy gets. In context of climate he means a tip that people give to Nature

  5. It's amazing how many people buy into this obvious farce, a complete hoax. Guaranteed everyone of them is fully boosted.

  6. There's one house between me and the ocean. I'm up on a bluff, and it's below me. During high tides the water now washes over it's front deck. Interesting times we're living in.

  7. We should keep a buffer just in case . What about an asteroid heating up the atmosphere . Then we were glad to have some ice left in the fridge

  8. The ice in Antarctica changes from year to year. Not surprised you are chirping about the ice level now when we’ve had 2 years with very low ice. Didn’t hear you say much in 2020 and 2021 when the ice level was at near record all time high.

  9. Great interview until the science explainer used the term "ice age" instead of "glacial period". I get that people have a hard time grasping things that generally last millions of years like the current ice age called the Quaternary Ice Age that we a still in, not the interglacial period we seem to be leaving that is about half way through its normal cycle and should be starting to go back into a glacial period according to Milankovitch cycles, in other words we have been in the current "ice age" for about 2.6 million years. Please use real terms like ice ages, glacial periods, and interglacial periods. I find it very hard to listen when simple things like the difference between an ice age and a glacial periods are misused.

  10. Let’s just say Antarctica is melting, which is what you call global warming. When you put a ice cube in a glass it melts you can’t tell by looking at it, but the volume is always the same so people who don’t believe in global warming are wrong because Antarctica isn’t being froze it is melting so they lose the war on that conversation.

  11. oh noes, the saltwater is going to get diluted by all the fresh water from the ice melt which will increase it's freezing point and new ice will once again form because the poles are simply colder and that's how thermodynamics and the planet work… gonna feel sorry for 90% of life that chose to cram itself onto the coastlines and every square inch of beachfront it could find but eh, it'll be better for the environment without all the tourism wasting fuel and polluting while going on vacation to most of those places! no big loss.

oh yea and if you're going to cry and complain about the burning of fossil fuels ya'll might want to start with Ukraine and tell them to stop blowing up Russian refineries, pipelines and holding facilities because right now Ukraine is single handily creating more unnecessary pollution than is needed… there's other ways for them to fix their problems they just don't want to talk about them… literally in any capacity… police yourselves and your neighbors first before telling others how to live!

  12. I don’t understand why everyone everyone’s freaking out considering we’re the only species knowing that there’s nothing we can do to stop death and there’s nothing we can do to stop the ice melting. They just don’t make refrigerators that big. Sit back and enjoy the show.

  13. "Reducing" CO2 at this point isn't going to do a thing – at least for centuries. Moreover, we could never reduce it enough, unless we were willing to allow our global economy to collapse, which climate and environmental collapse will do regardless.

  14. Hey you scientist. Why don't you tell the phrase 'renewable energy' as a solution for decreasing greenhouse gas in direct way? The announcer is asking what we can do (realistically), and also most of ignorant citizens who are watching this news probably wouldn't think deeply about ways increasing solar or wind power as a direct solution. If you do not inform the solution directly even if there is a solution, then interviewing is just mass horror or anxiety spread. Please help people take EVs or solar panels. Or at least encourage to buy solar stocks! I've rarely seen scientists who uses direct words

  15. hahaahahaha… still looking for the Climate Change overwhelming catalyst for earth catastrophe….I guess this guy doesn't believe the sun stops shining there each year. For weeks. Lots of freezing going on then, for each pole. I bet this person is actually payed by a government to agree with it… there is an "inter-related" system.

  16. Global Warming is a European and Canadian hoax Global Warming is not real there's is absolutely no scientific evidence to prove that Global Warming and sea level rise is happening.

  17. I’m on board with the danger that is looming… however the window has been closed for a while we are spectators at this point, besides there never was or would be the political will for that kind of global effort which would have been necessary at least 20 years ago if not 50.

  18. And yet the Artic has more ice than the last 22 years, explain your sky is falling tax grabbing sensational claims.

  19. Sadly, the people who aren’t watching this video are mostly likely the biggest part of the problem and possibly the most negatively affected.

  20. Speculations about future events are pure, unadulterated Propaganda! And these experts are swindlers and crooks!
