Privatisation has failed us. Looking after the most vulnerable in society should never be a money spinner.

In reality, an existing care home would already have permanent staff, so the cost of one extra boy would be more like £1k a week, not £20k a week.
Sounds like an extreme example but this is probably pretty common. Biggest issue is the lack of planning, if the home can be assured that it’s a long term placement they can hire permanent staff accordingly.
I am guessing the reason this child is in a house is because the annexes in care homes for children that need to be kept away from other children are all already in use. I’ve worked in a home that had one of these annexes and it worked well, but if there isn’t one available then there isn’t one available
A long time ago in London they used to have council run and funded facilities called “Crash Pads”. These were residential and set up specifically for children who were either too violent or damaged in some way or another to be placed into a normal care environment.
A large number of the Staff who worked in these facilities had been through the Care system themselves when they were children. This helped enormously when trying to relate and undo some of the damage that had been done to the children they were looking after.
Gradually, as the years passed the Staff were increasingly limited in what they were able to do by regulations and concerns over insurance liabilities and they were shut down. What’s in place now costs far more with far less long term benefit to the children the system is supposed to be helping.
I’m speaking about this from first hand knowledge and knew several children who are now adults with families of their own who were helped by their time at Crash Pads and the attention and structure the Staff were able to give them.
Extreme cases like this where the kids murdered someone should be tried as adults and put in jail.
It’s absolute insanity how benefits like free food for kids get cut but some cunt who murdered someone consumes 20k/week in costs.
