  1. The government will do nothing.

In fact, I’d imagine their next action on alcohol will be to increase MUP in line with inflation.

  2. Everything has to have some sort of drama attached to it, in order to sell ‘news’.

  3. This is why we take the car up to Newry form time to time. Those Sainsbury’s 4 for 3 specials on fine Trappist ales are a literal godsend.

  4. My German friend has said that the only surefire way to make Germans riot is if the price of beer goes way up.

  5. Spend most of my summers in Germany. A crate of 20 500ml bottles can range from 14 – 20 euro plus deposit on the bottles.

  6. Its mad. Im a smoker, I smoke rollies but here in ireland 20 john player is made in tallaght, Dublin but cost over 20€ but in spain they cost about 6€, a 30 gram of amberleaf is 27€ but in spain I can get a 50gram of amberleaf for 11 euro or 25£ in northern Ireland for 50 gram also. And the price will just keep going up because they say they want people to stop smoking but really its to get more money.

  7. I have been known to subsist on a diet of German beer, sausage and cheese, but only in a wurst kase scenario..

  8. Also one of the most expensive countries in Europe for electricity and probably general cost of living. But the government don’t care.

  9. We should be riding hoverbusses to work at this stage. But the only ones who benefit are the multiple house owning TDs.

  10. I was in Germany a few weeks ago. Pints of beer were €3 in one of the pubs that I was in.

6 pack of Corona Extra was €4.99.

It’s better for my health that I stay in Ireland from now on.

  11. Publicans are tax collectors. All the irrational hatred on this sub for self employed people in pub trade & the fact is we have the second highest excise in EU

  12. The point here is the Irish government have done it right, while the German government can either trust their people not to overly consume a dangerous toxic substance or they don’t care.

  13. Just returned from Ireland at the weekend, did a trip to the Midleton distillery while there. Was shopping in Aldi yesterday evening and they had 700ml bottles of Jamson for €14, nothing close to that price back in Ireland.

  14. It’s just getting stupid at this point, leave us drink or just ban it

  15. Is homebrewing a thing in Ireland?

I got into it over here in Aus and not only is it far cheaper but I always have the beer I like on hand.

  16. Was in Germany earlier this year and going back later in the year. I knew we were expensive here but 3 nights going out there cost about as much as one night out costs me here.

I know it sounds like Im exaggerating but I checked my transaction history. I cant remember exactly what I spent, but got arguments sake, say a full night out here cost me €100. Then the same night out 3 times in Germany cost me about €30-40 each. And they were much better nights than what I get here when going out.

  17. It’s like they are intentionally trying to maximise our misery.

You can’t even drown your sorrows anymore ffs.

Or more accurately, you can, but only with cheap battery acid cans from budget supermarkets that you drink at home.

Want to drink in a nicer, more social setting? Fuck you, peasant.

  18. As a non-drinker, I’d like to thank all the drinkers for the additional tax you’re paying.

  19. Pump it up some more, let’s incentivise the poitin boys.
