If you use Spotify in Czechia, you will soon pay more for your Premium subscription, but the streaming service promises new features to improve your listening experience. The company is increasing prices for individual, student, Duo, and Family plans while expanding its content and services.
With regards to when the changes will take place, Alex Norström, Spotify’s co-president and chief business officer, told British media company the Financial Times Sunday that price increases are part of the company’s “toolkit” and will be implemented “when it makes sense.”
How much more will you pay?
The individual Premium subscription is set to rise from CZK 169 to CZK 185 per month. Student plans will cost CZK 97, up from CZK 89, while the Duo package for two users should edge up by CZK 20, to CZK 249.
The Family plan, covering up to six users, will also get costlier by CZK 30, to CZK 299 per month. Spotify has begun notifying Czech subscribers by email, according to Czech media outlet Novinky.cz.
Globally, Spotify has already announced price hikes in Europe, Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Asia-Pacific region. Premium subscriptions will rise to EUR 11.99 per month across some countries in these markets, up from EUR 10.99.
Money needed for new features
In a press release last month, the streaming giant price updates were necessary “to continue to innovate our product offerings and features, and bring users the best experience.”
Norström added that upcoming price adjustments will coincide with the launch of new services and features, including enhanced video content and tools to help podcast creators monetize their shows.
Spotify is also expanding its library of video and podcast content through its Partner Program, providing monetization opportunities for creators. CEO Daniel Ek said this expansion has boosted content availability and attracted more subscribers.
In Czechia, the last time prices increased was in 2023: an individual Premium subscription rose from CZK 143 to CZK 169.
According to data firm Sensor Tower, Spotify in the Czech Republic had approximately 1.97 million weekly active users in the first quarter of this year.
Czech users now join a growing list of global subscribers facing higher costs as Spotify balances expansion and profitability.
