Coast guard targets migrant smuggling network in Evia

Greek authorities intercepted four vehicles carrying a total of 32 migrants across three areas of the island of Evia on Saturday, as part of a coordinated operation targeting an illegal migrant smuggling network.

Two drivers, aged 47 and 29, were arrested in Nea Styra after coast guard teams stopped two vehicles carrying 15 migrants.

In separate incidents, a third vehicle in Aliveri carrying nine migrants and a fourth near Agios Stefanos with eight migrants were located. Both drivers fled when approached by authorities, but the vehicles were later seized along with two mobile phones and cash totaling 385 euros and 14,440 Turkish lira.

The operation, coordinated by the Central Port Authority of Halkida, involved both coast guard and police units and followed intelligence provided by Greece’s National Intelligence Service.
