There seems to be a variety of figures going around from different research institutions. I’ve read other reports showing that China’s emissions have either plateaued or are even declining.
Building coal plants does not mean burning coal – the article appears to have been written by a rather unintelligent person.
[dw.com](http://dw.com) is a legitimate news organization. How they can’t distinguish between adding capacity and burning coal, I can’t understand.
Yeah, seems like someone there had a brain muscle torn…
> In H1 2025, 21 gigawatts (GW) of coal power were commissioned, the highest amount in the first half of the year since 2016, with projections for the full year exceeding 80 GW.
That’s from the report. They didn’t use more coal than before, they built more coal plants etc., so they can output more power if needed. They also are going insane in terms of other power sources.
One of the reasons some say, the US has already lost the AI game – because he US runs a power grid that shows the neglect from decades of sucking all the money out of the system and not reinvesting.
China’s power grid is constantly built and upgraded, not just the power plants.
Actual lies. China’s fossil fuel burning has been falling for a year.
Meanwhile the US and Canada are burning record amounts of fossil methane, which is little better.
Yes, but CO2 emissions over the last 12 months are down by 2.7% while energy production is up 2%.
“hey siri how long can a human survive in side a locked garage while burning coal?”
China also already has built more solar capacity in the first 6 months of this year than the US has in total.
