  5. Move the thing into a stadium with pay to enter and use the money to have a private security. Stop wasting police time, resources and tax payers money.

  7. That’s a very low number in context of the volume of people that attended.

  11. I don’t think it should be banned myself.

    Obviously I’m one person, I’m not going to see everything that goes on, but to me it seemed like a really good carnival today, that unfortunately had some bad things happen to some people. I did see an arrest, but i don’t think it should be banned.

  12. Have just come back from carnival. The most dangerous thing experienced is the 50,000 steps I’ve done – feet are throbbing

  13. As a proportion of attendees though, that’s very low. And while zero stabbings and no arrests would be preferable, anything that requires people to gather carries the risk of some nasties – music festivals often end up with reported rapes or drug deaths for example.

    It’s not really my kind of thing but the annual fixation on crime at this specific event is weird.

    I know how some people love those per capita numbers.

  16. Why did they lead with stabbings when the breakdown itself was also interesting

    From the article:

    “32 assaults on police

    46 possession of offensive weapons

    70 possession of cannabis

    32 possession of Class A drugs

    44 drug supply offences

    5 robberies

    4 incidents of violence with injury

    36 other violent offences

    18 sexual offences

    136 other offences”

    If this is what happens in Notting hill carnival I wonder what a regular huge event does numbers wise in terms of these things.
