Online Safety Made Dangerous

  1. This vindicates what I’ve been saying for months, from the opening paragraphs the writer says “Longer term, it will be fuel for the Putins and other authoritarians, who revel in the prospect of identifying everyone and deciding for themselves what is right and wrong, and will be very pleased that the UK government is taking essentially the same approach.”

This government are changing everything so it suits them, they are slowly moving us towards authoritarianism. This is just one of many articles that are out there that state this.

If you’re happy with what the government are proposing fine. If you’re not, now is the time to organise and protest.

Personally I know there are flaws with the Internet but the proposed legislation is taking things too far. It’s an over the top reaction to a problem that can be handled in a more suitable way. This will encourage people off the Internet which as the documents from the government say is an essential part of everyday life. By their legislation they are denying people that essential Internet the powers that crow about.

Another thing to consider is the reasons why people use tools to make themselves anonymous and to keep their location private. There are genuine reasons to want to do so and they’re not taking these into account.

Most sinister of all is the level of surveillance they will have. I don’t want anybody to know where I am and what I’m doing 24/7. To be honest it’s not that hard to track me at the moment but I do still like to think that there are times when I am alone and not being monitored. It would be pretty strange if they became curious about my toilet habits for example. I don’t like to tell people that I’m going to a particular cemetery to spend time near what’s left of a dear person. Why is there a need for anybody to know that anyway.

The age verification thing will be a problem I suspect. I hope that the government get caught out by that if implemented.

If the legislation passes then it’s going to affect more people than you might think, it’s got elements that do more harm than good it’s got elements that may have good intentions but cause issues with privacy. Despite my advancing years, if I have to produce documentation to show my age and other details I’m prepared to cut my access and resort to doing everything the old fashioned way. I’m not prepared to willingly walk myself into an authorative state like Nazi Germany was. I refuse to leave in a country that considers spying and eavesdropping on its citizens.

More and more people will be jailed for saying anything against the government. Believe what they tell you even if you know it’s bullshit. Blindly follow the government like sheep. Step out of line, a prison cell beckons. If you’re not concerned now you will be.
