TikTok announced strengthened safety measures and countering misinformation ahead of Moldova’s parliamentary elections scheduled for the end of September 2025. In the company’s press release, it describes implementing comprehensive steps to reduce the influence of misinformation on the electoral process.
A specialized cybersecurity and disinformation response team has been established, with a deep understanding of the Moldovan context. In partnership with Moldova’s Central Electoral Commission, the “Election Center” app has been launched, where users will be able to access verified information: voter registration procedures, key dates, and verified sources that provide additional information about the elections.
Additionally, together with the Moldovan publication Stop Fals!, TikTok has developed media literacy educational materials to help users learn to recognize potentially false information.

Strengthening Transparency and Preventing Manipulation Ahead of Elections
As part of the campaign, the platform labels state media accounts, conducts verification of TikTok accounts to confirm their authenticity, and requires authors to label content created with artificial intelligence as produced using appropriate technologies.
“We also label state media accounts, verify TikTok accounts to confirm their authenticity, and require authors to label realistic content created using AI technologies”

It is also emphasized that paid political advertising is banned on the platform, and accounts of politicians and political forces do not have access to advertising tools or monetization.
The Moldovan parliamentary elections are scheduled for September 28, 2025. Earlier, Moldova’s Prime Minister Dorin Recean said that Russian agents spent about 200 million euros trying to buy votes during the 2024 presidential race and the EU referendum that took place in 2024.
On July 30, 2025, Moldova’s president Maia Sandu said that Russia is preparing for an “unprecedented interference” in the country’s parliamentary elections.
In summary, such steps by TikTok are aimed at increasing transparency and safety ahead of the elections, reducing the influence of misinformation, and providing users with reliable information about the electoral process.
