Polish President Karol Nawrocki on Monday vetoed a bill **extending state financial support** provided to Ukrainian refugees and unveiled plans to **limit their future access** to child benefits and healthcare.
Ukrainians are not citizens of Poland, nor members of the EU. Ukrainians already receive far more privileges than foreign nationalities usually do in a country.
> But he is remembered by many in Poland as a symbol of anti-Polish violence. Bandera is associated with the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), which Warsaw says carried out mass killings of Polish civilians in 1943-44.
I find Reuters’ framing interesting. It treats the massacre as contentious despite the fact that it’s widely accepted. The general descriptions of the UPA and OUN in the article are also quite soft. Since the start of the war, there’s been this general tendency of large outlets to soften the view of historical and contemporary Ukrainian far-right/Nazi affiliated groups.
In my country, Ukrainian refugees contribute more to the budget in taxes than they receive from welfare. Is it not the same in Poland? Why would you cut the benefits if the income surpasses them?
