  1. I thought Poland was a big supporter of Ukraine. Why would they threaten Starlink?

  2. Ok EU, please pick up this tab. Can not be hard if all pro Ukraine countries contribute.

  3. What a shitty thing to do. Unfortunately in USA so we have our own Putin cock warmer in charge.

  4. Aid law included walfare to all Ukrainian immigrants. According to Nawrocki social walfare should be given only to those who are legally employed in Poland, not all.
It’s about 800+ program, which is monthly payment to parents for each child.

  5. Let’s be honest. The only group that hates Russia more than Ukraine is Poland. This is about the details of things and poor policy.

Read the actual details of why and it makes logical sense.

  6. it’s weird to watch all of Europe try and copy America as if what we are doing looks good.

I think a lot of European citizens are going to be in for very rude awakening a decade from now if they continue down this path and wake up to Russia bombing their cities.

  7. Yeah because Poland never had any issues with Russia… These European countries are pathetic. Been saying it for a while now. Zero initiative without the US.

  8. The aid law is about about only giving social support to Ukrainian refugees who are working. If they are not working, the aid will be withheld. That seems entirely reasonable.

The Starlink access that is funded by Poland is still active. The president is threatening a veto for continuing funding passed Oct 1 unless some internal bills are passed. Parliament is controlled by the opposite party/coalition than the president – so this is the only way the president could get an agenda passed for now. Its purely internal politics and has little to do with Ukraine.

Poland and Ukraine have a difficult history. There have been efforts to sit down and hash out the Volhynia massacres/ethnic cleansing (Ukrainian massacres huge amounts of Poles – and what Poles were left did it right back). Ukraine so far has refused to sit down. They are also unwilling to recognize that the black and red flag of the banderites has a pretty negative connotation in Poland – yet you still find Ukrainains flying it – in Poland. Just don’t.  That said – there have been some promising developments on this front but it’s not resolved yet.

Until this matter is resolved – Ukraine isn’t entering the EU and relations with Poland are going to be on edge.  Poland hates Russia with a passion.  The current far right conservative president is wanted by Russia.  All these comments calling Poland a Russian puppet are fucking moronic.  The left and right in Poland don’t agree on much, but they do agree that every Russian that dies in Ukraine is a good thing.

  9. To shed some light for people that might be interested beyond ‘evil Putin puppet’. The argument Nawrocki (the new president makes) is that a very wide bill that was sent to him for signing, that included stuff like Poland paying for starlink in Ukraine and that helps Ukrainian refugees in Poland keep their status easily without too much beurocracy, should be passed but it has to have two corrections. The contested parts are:
    1) 800+ (polish benefit where parents of every child get 800pln monthly to support their kids) should be applicable only if parents (or parent) are actively employed. What is interesting is that there is no such requirement for Polish citizens and would mean rules related to refugees are tighter. The argument it is to stop people who live in Ukraine from coming to Poland to just claim polish benefits and spend the money in Ukraine. There is no hard proof stuff like that is happening tho.
    2) Free medical care only for employed refugees (and their direct family). Basically since the invasion refugees were insured by the polish government, regardless of their work status and were capable of using polish medical care free of charge (if they were unemployed, if employed they paid regular insurance pay). The important point is that this would be the exact same treatment as polish citizens get – contrary to the 800+ which is to discriminate against Ukrainians, this change would be against their benefit, but it would not be discriminatory.
So basically he refused to sign a super big bill related to support for Ukraine and Ukrainian refugees in Poland unless these two points will be adjusted according to his campaign promises (part of the reason he got elected). If memory serves me well he is planning on introducing his version of the bill that is supposed to change these two points to the parliment. Nothing about his veto is related to starlinks, it’s just coincidence they are regulated by the same piece of legislation.

  10. You’re mostly correct. There was just alot of “Poland did something that isn’t fully supportive of Ukraine”. Thus they are Russian pawns and it just drives me mad.

This is standard political stuff and I don’t think it needs sensationalist headlines

  11. It’s very sad to see this, you would think Poland, with its history would remain steadfast in ensuring that more atrocities are prevented.
