Croatia’s firefighting air forces have been highly active this summer, tackling 69 fires between June 16 and August 25, according to the Ministry of Defence (MORH). Units were deployed across the Adriatic coast, including 23 fires in Split-Dalmatia, 19 in Zadar, 17 in Šibenik-Knin, six in Dubrovnik-Neretva, three in Istria, and one in Lika-Senj County.
In addition to extinguishing fires, the air units carried out 52 reconnaissance missions to detect risks early, completing 2,973 flights over 525 hours. They dropped 14,280 tonnes of water and used nearly 13,000 litres of foam.
The forces also made an international contribution, assisting in firefighting efforts abroad on eight occasions, including in Israel, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro.
