I often associate anything after the year 2002 as sort of modern times but when I was back at school just about to leave in 1992 I would have thought the year 1969 as unbelievably old which is the same timeline for me now looking back in 2025 to 2002.

Hopefully I am making sense.

  1. I know exactly the tub of blue wet look gel that boy is using too. Noice.

  2. 2002 is ancient times to my 2010s children. Like me looking back on the 60s. Concord really dates it! Great video to have.

  3. Man everyone in my school had that same hairstyle but my curly ass couldn’t pull it off to save my life.

  4. The guy that scored Liverpool’s last goal against Newcastle the other day was born in the same year Katy Perry had a No.1 with I Kissed A Girl.

  5. It feels both distant and not so distant to me. Like it’s hard to believe that 2002 was 23 years ago now, but when I think about where I was then and everything that has changed in that time, it seems like a lifetime ago. Time is such a weird thing.

  6. I worked in a circular glass fronted building over the road from where Concorde last landed in the country, before landing the plane banked all the way around the building and we followed it around before watching it finally come into land. An amazing piece of machinery.

  7. 2002 is to 2025 as 1979 was to 2002.

Scary to someone who remembers seeing *Star Trek : The Motion Picture* at the cinema – and being disappointed it wasn’t as exciting as *Star Wars*.

Still, a couple of weeks ago, my MIL was telling me her memories of VE Day and VJ Day…

  8. These kind of comparisons always mess me up.

I was eight years old in 2002, which to most of my colleagues at work sounds really young. However I was born closer to the release date of the first Beatles album than to the present day.

  9. A similar thing happens with albums, Hybrid Theory was a definitive album for me as a kid, and still feels modern to me now, it’s 25 years old. To todays kids that’s the equivalent of being released in 1975. Music from 1975 felt absolutely ancient to me back then.

  10. Oh man, I had that exact same hair style as well. Like Simon from The Inbetweeners but worse.

  11. You think that’s shocking. I was first married in 1982. More time has passed since then than 1942 during the second world war!

  12. The time between The Beatles Sgt Pepper album and Nirvanas Nevermind was 24 years. The time between Nevermind and now is 34 years…

  13. I used to live only a couple of miles from where this family lived and this brings all the memories flooding back. I used to sit by my window some nights to watch Concorde take off in awe of the blue flames coming from the jet engines. 7pm every night.

  14. I was born in the very late 90s, so the early 2000s was my child hood.

That child hood was mostly spent obsession of lego, particularly bionicles.

  15. Time passes. This has been going on for quite a while now.

  16. Yep. Mid to late 2000’s feels like 5 minutes ago to me, it feels recent but it was 20 years ago.

I’m almost 40 but still feel like a 25 year old. When I meet people in their early 20’s I feel the same age as them, but then I realise when I was actually their age they’d just been born. It’s crazy how quickly time goes.

  17. You are all way to casual about that concorde appearance lol

    Post this to /r/aviation

  18. It does make sense. Last year for no real reason, I chucked on some old episodes of Londons Burning to show my kid (Used to live for that show when I was their age!)

Fuck me did the early 90’s look old. I expected it to feel closer, the 1990’s are modern day, I remember them I was there! But wow, turns out there’s a lot of water under that 30 year bridge.

Incidentally, 2002 is when ambulances stop being white…!

  19. Pre smartphone era, I think I had a Nokia 3310 at that point, getting a £5 top up card and paying 10p for a text message and a few quid for ringtones and screen pictures.

  20. Living in a Post British society, I feel genuinely pained by what we live like now.

  21. Dammn, literally me in 2002. Wet gel, graphic shirt, Adidas trackies, astros on the feet, ball with some patches missing and not a care in the world.

  22. Man, seeing Concorde on video is so nostalgic.

I remember seeing them taking off and on their approach to landing at Heathrow, but looking back it just seems like a dream.

  23. Concorde was an absolute beast! Setting off car alarms for additional flex!

Probably a Peugeot or Citroen just to stick it to the French and their crappy Le Aérospatiale Concorde

  24. It’s always great to see young David Beckham. Kid was so talented.

  25. I’ve had the exact feeling lately. Around 2005 as a teen I got into 80s music which felt so retro and distant, but now it’s exactly 20 years since that time.
