Denmark demands US answers to new Greenland allegations

    The Danish foreign minister has summoned the top U.S. diplomat in Copenhagen to explain a media report alleging that American nationals linked to President Donald Trump are attempting to infiltrate Greenland and run covert influence operations there.

  3. Those American men should be arrested and criminally charged. No democracy should allow a “friendly” government to destabilize it.

  4. So now the US is using the same hybrid warfare tactics used by russians in Georgia, Ukraine or Moldova.

  6. Does Denmark not have “foreign interference laws” like Australia that allows these types of people to be arrested and charged? Australia had to introduce these laws to fight internal interference from Chinese operatives. Maybe Denmark should introduce such laws if they don’t already have them.

So coverage here in Denmark, is that DR (danish national media) has uncovered a plot with 3 individuals with close ties to Trump, operating in Greenland trying to create false narratives, that would hurt the Greenlandic relationship with Denmark, with the goal of creating a Greenlandic “independence movement” in support of Trump taking over.

    It violates several international laws, and will probably hurt ties between Denmark and the US further, unfortunately.

  13. I wonder what the US would do if it was the other way around and we (Denmark) were sending people to actively interfere with with, say, Hawaii, trying to gain control of it.

    Like, obviously we do not NEED to send anyone, Trump is destabilizing the US all by himself, but if we did, he’d go fucking nuts with military and economic consequences…

  24. This is happening in Canada as well. In Alberta a new political party has been formed….the Canadian Republican Party….and it is attempting to stir up separatism in Alberta and Saskatchewan. There are reports that Americans are backing the movement.

  30. I hope Greenlandic people are smart enough to know what’s going on. They only need to look at places like Puerto Rico to see how they would be treated by Americans. The history with Denmark is not ideal, but I believe they are better off staying close to Europe if they want to preserve their identity and prosper. 

    Also, makes sense now why American social media has been boosting certain Greenlandic/Danish narratives for the last few months. Like, I have no connection to it, why is it in my feed??
