Greenland is the target of influence campaigns that could create discord between Greenland and Denmark. This is the assessment of the Danish Police Intelligence Service (PET) in a written comment to TV 2.

The Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen (M) summons a U.S. top diplomat for talks after DR has described the activities and possible attempts at infiltration in Greenland by three American men.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced this on Wednesday to Ritzau.
• “We can ascertain that there are continuously foreign actors who show interest in Greenland and its current position within the Kingdom. Therefore, it should not come as a surprise if, in the near future, we see foreign attempts to influence the Kingdom’s future.”
• “Any attempt at interference in the Kingdom’s internal affairs will, of course, be unacceptable. In this light, I have asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to summon the American chargé d’affaires for talks at Asiatisk Plads,” Lars Løkke Rasmussen says in a written statement to Ritzau.

Mark Stroh is the American chargé d’affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Denmark.
The U.S. currently has no ambassador to Denmark, after Alan Leventhal stepped down in January.
A chargé d’affaires is a top diplomat but of a lower rank than an ambassador.
Donald Trump has nominated Ken Howery as his candidate for a new ambassador to Denmark, but Howery has not yet received the necessary political approvals and has therefore not assumed the post.
On Wednesday, DR reported via anonymous sources that men connected to U.S. President Donald Trump are attempting to infiltrate Greenland, which has long been on Trump’s wish list as a potential future part of the United States.
DR has not been able to determine whether the men are acting independently.
DR asked the White House whether the U.S. government has instructed American citizens to carry out influence operations in Greenland.
The White House has not responded to DR’s inquiry.

A representative from the U.S. Embassy in Copenhagen told DR that the American government does not control the actions of private citizens, and that individual Americans may have interests in Greenland.
It is rare for Denmark to summon representatives from allied nations for talks.
However, this also happened back in May, when Lars Løkke Rasmussen instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to summon then-U.S. chargé d’affaires Jennifer Hall Godfrey to a meeting with the ministry’s permanent secretary, Jeppe Tranholm-Mikkelsen.
That followed reporting from The Wall Street Journal, based on anonymous sources, that the U.S. planned to increase espionage activities in Greenland.
Lars Løkke Rasmussen emphasizes the close ties between Denmark and Greenland:
• “We have a close and trustful cooperation between the governments of Denmark and Greenland, as well as a close cooperation and dialogue between the relevant Greenlandic and Danish authorities,” he says.
Denmark, the country that helped the US to spy on European officials, reaping what it sowed.
Ah yes… those pesky “I was just following orders” Americans.
They are literally trying to annex the territory of a supposed allied country. Their methods and ideology are carbon copies of those of Russia and still, some people, especially in the Commission, are considering them to be allies rather than foes.
You will see that the moment we are attacked from the East by Russia, the US is going to land-grab from the North-West.
Greenlandic Eskimos never lived upon or colonised the whole island, so should an independent Greenland include the whole island?
Could they just get parts of the West Coast, etc.?
This shit is a key part of modern warfare.
If America is behind this, it’s an incredibly hostile action. Something you’d expect from an enemy and certainly not an ally.
Greenland is easy prey and in 5 years could be completely upturned.
You need to influence public opinion both at home and in the US.
The first thing any proper destabilization does is create an issue.
Show Denmark tried to suppress local culture/language in schools. Find a local strawman to push that. Find awful forgotten things done in the past.
Most importantly, you also have to push those lines in the US public.
Mount a US led NGO supporting Greenland native culture, invite young Greenlander in the US, send young US citizens to Greenland on “cultural exchange”.
5 years max, the fruit is going to be ripe.
Best thing for Denmark to do, is to go ahead with F-35 purchase!
First of all, idea of independent Greenland is beyond naive. With their position, resources, population and melting ice.
If they don’t like Danes. They will be colonized by Russia or US or both. And it will not be pretty.
Well Trump have a history of using the same “advisors” as Putin so this is no surprise.
Manafort who helped Putin with Ukraine is probably retired but there are surely others with the same playbook.
Just buy more F-35s like Denmark has been doing, that will show them!
This is completely as anticipated. Absolutely no surprise whatsoever.
Well, yes. Welcome to the new age warfare, where info-psych-ops are the ammo with a veneer of plausible deniability, so even the nominal “allies” could use it in certain circumstances.
Get used to it.
But by all means, lets keep bending over for the orange turd.
Interesting that PET (the Danish intelligence service) would come out and announce this shortly after the story about the young woman who had her baby taken away started spreading online- I already suspected that there was some kind of American involvement in that, but now I’m positive there is.
Btw; that story has people outraged both in Denmark and Greenland, what happened was an absolute travesty. There’s been another story about another young Greenlandic woman in the same situation as well recently. Even so, I’m pissed off that the Americans would use a tragic situation like that to drive a wedge between Denmark and Greenland- it’s excactly the kind of backstabbery I’d expect from them 😡
**What’s going on?** Greenland is the target of influence campaigns that can create discord between Greenland and Denmark. This is the assessment from the Danish Police Intelligence Service (PET) in a written comment to TV 2.
Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen has summoned the top U.S. diplomat in Denmark for an interview after DR published [a story](https://www.dr.dk/nyheder/indland/moerklagt/centrale-kilder-maend-med-forbindelser-til-trump-forsoeger-infiltrere) about three men’s “secret influence operations in Greenland.”
“That’s just not how you treat an ally”
Well shit! Guess what? The USA is no longer Europe’s ally.
Trump’s first year isn’t over yet, this is only going to get worse and Frau Appeasement is either in on it or too stupid to do anything about it.
And don’t look to the Dems for help either, they’re too busy filling their own pockets and doing whatever AIPAC tells them.
Both the US and Russia are drooling over Arctic territories like Greenland and Svalbard
Knowing that every step they make is predictable
The real problem is rather : are Greenland/DK and Norway (and Canada?) protecting themselves enough to face that immense double-threat ?
Wow….if that’s how a friend behaves who’d want enemies!
Who needs enemies when you have allies like the US? Fuck you Trump.
Good luck deterring US ambitions over Greenland with F-35. I really don’t get why most European countries don’t shift from the US beside some talks.
TIL US conservatives are too cowardly to even invade Greenland.
Trumpsters would love it if he ordered the US to occupy Greenland; and they don’t care if some Greenlanders got killed in the process.
As was predicted and expected.
The US is not an ally anymore. But a lot of our political leaders still don’t seem to understand that.
Love how so many people here are supportive of continued colonialism. Greenland should be completely autonomous.
And yet we kiss their ring. When will our spineless bureaucrats get kicked out for actually competent people? We have to rip off the bandaid and stop sucking up to the US every single second.
The Danes need to have a permanent military garrison on Greenland similar to the British Garrison on the Falklands. The Garrison would also contribute to the Greenland economy in a positive way.
