tbf those birds are soooo beautiful and ive been seeing them everywhere
I love these birds. So beautiful and the sound they make is soo cute.
The common starling is, ironically, considered an invasive species in North America. On that note, both parakeets and starlings are tremendously smart birds and are excellent mimics.
Starlings and swallows are only here for a few weeks as far as I remember. They dont wake me up as they did in Madrid.
EDIT: thinking of the spotless starling. The common one was a, ehm, common view when I visited Camden, scavenging food.
There’s a load of em in Limerick, I hear…
I much prefer to see those parrots than some boring European birds.
I love the sound of them
After the young have fledged, starlings move to other feeding areas, for a while, but then come back.
Invaded last year? Lived in London my whole life and seen parrakeets here my whole life….
“Parakeets were first sighted in London in the late 19th century, with early records from Dulwich in 1893 and Brixton in 1894, though these were isolated instances. A significant breeding population wasn’t established until the 1970s, with their numbers increasing rapidly from the mid-1990s onwards, turning them into a common sight across the city. “
They’ve been around London for a few decades. This was taken in my garden 6 years ago .

I was once told off on line for calling London’s parakeets “noisy, green, invasive bastards.”
Apparently it was childish and unnecessary.

I used to see them in my old flats in NW London; Muswell Hill, Tufnell Park, Gospel Oak and Kentish Town. I know they’re invasive but I quite liked them. I’ve now moved down to Margate way … and they’re down here as well, albeit a much smaller flock — otherwise appropriately known as a pandemonium of parakeets!
