Bad publicity won’t change anything. You will get sound bites from politicians and disability advocates, but they all know this won’t make the HSE do better or care anymore.
We are desperately short on staff across all care roles in Ireland right now.
Our best pool to tap for employees in the industry over the last 10 years has been Spain, but even they’ve run dry on staff.
It’s not even a finance or pay level issue, even the private contracting agencies that they would normally use to backfill positions temporarily are running dry.
The staff just aren’t out there.
It’s crazy. Across the HSE, Simon Community & the Peter McVerry Trust there is a massive shortage to the point where holes are happening and balls are being dropped.
There’s going to be a lot more stories like this in the coming months across a lot of industries.
