This is boris johnsons nhs. It’s actually embarrassing.
> But there were some patients who required “the assistance of one person to walk or mobilise”, which taxis could not provide.
> As part of the pilot scheme, a volunteer car would be dispatched to these patients.
I hope they’ve got good insurance. This sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen..
So, instead of hiring patient transport drivers, just get people to work for, what, claps?
’tis welfare reform verily.
How say you? Thou didst thinketh that ‘welfare state’ was just benefits?
What a jolly jape on you.
These people are awesome. They transported me to my radiotherapy sessions, a round trip of over 50 miles as the nearest centre was that far away.
They aren’t used for transporting sick people to hospital, they are for those of us who don’t have a car and can’t get from one rural area to another as there’s no public transport for treatment or outpatients where the patient is not sick.
Radiotherapy is tiring and my journey was stressful. Without them taking me door to door every day for 4 weeks I would have missed several appointments.
It’s a shame that we are in this situation, but it’s actually a good use of resources. An awful lot of 999 calls don’t really require the advanced skills of a fully qualified paramedic, nor the equipment/medicines carried in a ambulance.
It’s much cheaper to provide and support trained Ambulance Technicians/Emergency Ambulance Crew in a car than a fully resourced ambulance and paramedic crew.
Screw giving hospitals more money so they can hire people, get them to work for free.
This has been a deliberate ongoing strategy. Outsource significant sections of the welfare state to the charity sector. We’ve already seen it with food banks, and you can expect charity involvement in healthcare provision to become an increasingly common thing in the near future as well.
Won’t make a difference. They’ll be waiting at the hospital for 8 hours before they are even admitted. If they are even admittted.
This has been happening since Covid kicked in, people volunteer to take others to hospital.
Remember everyone, the UK is one of the richest nations in the world.
Gentle reminder to everyone, if you didn’t vote against the Tories last time (yes, this includes voting LibDem in marginal Lab-Con seats), you are directly in favour of this and think this is good.
