Croatian President Zoran Milanović met today in Zagreb with Varsen Aghabekian, Palestine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, during her official visit to Croatia.

At the meeting, Milanović strongly condemned Israeli military actions in Gaza, describing them as brutal attacks on civilians and rejecting any justification for the occupation of the territory. He reiterated his belief that the only just solution is the recognition of two states — Israel and Palestine.

“Hrvatska should recognise Palestine as a step towards ending the war and the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza. Recognition of the Palestinian people’s right to their own state is the only way to achieve lasting peace in the Middle East,” Milanović said.

The President announced he would, within his constitutional powers, firmly advocate for Croatia to move quickly toward recognising Palestine and called on the government to initiate the process in Parliament.

The meeting was also attended by Palestinian representatives based in Vienna, alongside senior officials from the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
