I see many Websites are now censoring Racist terms

  1. I’ve seen many people here try to claim that the term paddy is inherently racist

    Fucking ridiculous

  2. Jaysus! So I’ve been racist to my next door neighbour since the day I met him.🙈 I’d better let him know.

  3. Well, the compile farm takes up most of the day, and at night the site just wants a cup of tea, so it can’t devote itself full time to the aul racism.

  4. Paddy isn’t racist. It’s xenophobic at the very, very least depending on who’s saying it. And you’d want fairly thin skin to be insulted by such a jovial word.

  5. It was the British in their ignorance that created this – In Cork city there is an ‘English Market’ but forgotten now was ‘Paddy’s Market’ as it was called – it was where the Irish traded on Cornmarket Street – Nowadays it’s just called the Coal Quay.

It reminds me of the Christy Moore song (Missing You)- ‘to where your a Paddy, a Biddy or a Mick – good for nothing but stacking the brick’

  6. When I moved to Ireland from the UK, I found it really difficult to call people either Paddy or Mick because of the derogatory association in my head.

  7. Reminds me of the story my uncle used to tell me when he was in Saipan with a few of the cousins and friends he had from where my grandparents are from in Dublin.

They’d refuse to call him by his name (Paul, bit of ribbing as you do) so they’d call him packie instead after packie bonner.

Problem is, when they’d come over to London and would openly call him packie they’d get awful looks about the place lol

  8. I sent a DM on a forum a few years ago, in which I used the word “Snigger”

It literally appeared on the other person’s side as “Sblackman”. He didn’t know what the hell it was supposed to mean
