Doesn’t it also mention Ukraine (or Russia, depending on the Cossacks) negatively?
*Already the eagle of Austria*
*has lost its feathers.*
*the blood of Italy*
*and the Polish blood*
*Drank with* ***Cossacks***
*But its heart was burnt.*
Polish anthem mentions Italy back!
> March, march, Dąbrowski,
> From Italy to Poland.
> Under your command
> We shall rejoin the nation.
Very well, nice.
Italy is also mentioned in Polish anthem positively.
technically we also mention Russia. Or better, we say that the Austrian eagle drank Italian and Polish blood with the cossacks. I guess our XIX century poets didn’t know that the cossacks are not exclusively a Russian thing.
Polish anthem:
Countries mentioned positively:
* Italy
* French Empire (emperor’s name mentioned: “Bonaparte has shown us ways to victory”)
Countries mentioned negatively:
* Sweden (“just like Czarniecki returned to Poznań after the Swedish invasion”)
Countries mentioned negatively in a stanza that is no longer part of the official anthem:
* Russia-Muscovy (“Germans and Muscovites won’t settle”)
* Germany (“Germans and Muscovites won’t settle”)
Context: Polish anthem was written in 1797 in Reggio nell’Emilia and was originally the song of the French-allied Polish Legions in Italy.
