A big happy 104th birthday to Belfast’s Terry Sharpe whose father, Albert Sharpe, played Darby in Disney’s ‘Darby O’Gill and the Little People’. What a milestone!
Hearing the foxes at night always reminds me of the Banshee in this movie.
Later we’ll all have a wee drop of whiskey to celebrate!
Did anyone else hear the rumour as a kid that outside of Ireland all the Irish actors had their dialogue dubbed over?
Seriously made of tough stuff to get to that age. Genetically of course, but also mentally. Think about what this man lived through, and I don’t mean multiples re-runs of that shite film.
A lot of hurt, a lot of joy, and a lot of what life has to throw at you. The ups, downs, and all in-between. Think about this: basically all your friends and anyone you knew throughout substantively important parts of your life are all dead and gone. People can carry that pain, it can hurt a hell of a lot, and it wouldn’t be unnatural to feel alone at that age. You are vulnerable too. You are not a spring chicken.
But what a man and what a human. A total badass. How many of us are 50 or 60 years younger than this man and go into our jobs each morning with a renewed hatred for all this life business in general, and here’s this man with an insatiable zest for his life . Smiling, cracking jokes, a legend.
Here a short of sad fact is that Terry Sharpe has lived over half of his life without his dad he spent 49 years with his dad and 55 years and counting without him
