He doesn’t need to. He didn’t have the faintest idea of the consequences of Brexit but it made him and his mates richer so that’s all that mattered.
Does he need to? It’ll never effect people in his position.
It would appear half the electorate were equally as clueless (or just closet racists/xenophobes).
No-one forced them into voting Leave…they made a conscious decision to line up, that day, and shoot themselves in the foot (metaphorically).
This will neither be news to those on side or of any importance to those on the other.
Does he mention Bluncket at all, the link won’t load for me?
I can’t imagine how embarrassing it will be if this clown gets into power.
It’s like how Sunak did that whole big thing of putting EU laws in the shredder and then they kind of quietly backed down on it.
Talking is _easy_, but Reform doesn’t have a great record on delivery.
The conservatives are talking about doing this too.
Farage is a clown. He prances around in front of the camera like some 1970s pub comedian, doing the same old skits for his fans. Having him in charge would be like putting Bernard Manning or Roy “Chubby” Brown in number 10. Sure, some people would be entertained when he says the naughty stuff that we’re not supposed to say, but they’d be less entertained when the cost of living rockets and we have no public healthcare or schools left.
Why do they want to get rid of these. Makes you wonder … or it should :
1. Right to life
2. Freedom from torture and inhuman or degrading treatment
3. Freedom from slavery and forced labour
4. Right to liberty and security
5. Right to a fair trial
6. No punishment without law (you can’t be punished for something that wasn’t a crime at the time)
7. Right to respect for private and family life
8. Freedom of thought, conscience and religion
9. Freedom of expression
10. Freedom of assembly and association (to meet and form groups/unions)
11. Right to marry and start a family
12. Right to an effective remedy (to challenge breaches of your rights in court)
13. Freedom from discrimination
If reform gets in they will basically do fuck all other than enrich them selves and there friends.
They will say who knows running a country could be so hard. Then they will say if you give us another term we will definitely be able to sort it.
> Farage ‘hasn’t got the faintest idea’ of consequences
That’s it. That should be the headline.
The only consequence he cares about are that he and his rich backers get even richer and stomp the working and middle class in to the ground all in the name of “making Britain back British”
He has already demonstrated that he can say whatever he wants to get what he wants with pretty much no consequences.
Why would he change that approach now?
He’s a fucking cockroach and yet people lap it up.
The annoying thing about this is that Benn is doing the exact same thing mainstream politicians have said for decades now “oooo, we couldn’t possibly” but hasn’t actually said what would be so negative. Would be helpful if ministers actually laid out what the issues would be – this just sounds like an empty threat.
And Farage doesn’t need to think about the consequences right now. He can happily throw out all these statements for the time being with no consequences and if the best Labour can do is call him a boogeyman with nothing to back it up he’ll lap that up all day long
Did Tony Blair understand the consequences when he wrote the ECHR into everything?
Did he realise that having judges prevent the deportation of foreign born nonces due to “human rights” wouldn’t be popular?
It could be worse.
He could completely understand the consequences of leaving and be planning for them….
The fact that there is so much concern about Reform gaining power should result in the Tories and Labour getting their act together and sorting out the issues that are resulting in Reform leading in the Polls. Sadly, at the moment, neither are. There are still 3 years to go before the next Election. Lets hope they use this time wisely
>Farage ‘hasn’t got the faintest idea’
Could have left it there really.
Can anyone explain this to me…
I don’t see a specific problem with leaving the European rights behind IF and only if we create are own which are better for us BEFORE we leave.
Why don’t they draft and float a replacement prior to even requesting to leave.
If you go to your boss and say ‘yo I’m going to stop doing that’ without providing a better more effective solution the answer will be no. Same goes here.
I’ve heard them be interviewed and say they would introduce new laws here after leaving. Why after
he knows he’ll be able to get away with more ridiculousness & there will be nothing he has to answer to
…. That’s all he needs to know and all he cares about, stripping away guidelines/barriers so his “common sense” government of ragtag sketchy PMs can dictate to everyone else unquestioned.
Probably some restoration of the human rights we had before the ECHR
If farage and Starmer accidentally cause reunification through sheer nihilism and incompetence… I don’t know where it’ll stand.
Crazy times we live in.
It’s kind of interesting watching this.
Farage and reform are the very predicable result of a failing economy, falling real wages, rising taxes, collapsing public services etc. if I can see this, surely benn, Starmer etc can? Yet they think they can argue people out of the consequences of their own failure to act!?
Farage is all vibes and soundbites. He does not need to have any idea what he is doing because he knows that saying he will do something is enough to get attention, headlines, news segments etc. He knows people want to hear this and do not care about the ramifications of doing this, nor the difficulties of doing so. He already has some people eating up everything he says. His followers do not want the truth, they want their dream UK to exist and Farage is the one promising them that. That is why he does not have to thought any of his ideas out.
Rather than continually telling us Farage has no idea what he’s talking about, or that Farage wants to burn the place down to rule the ashes etc, perhaps politicians from other parties should do something to change the conditions which make people vote for Farage and Co.
I blame the rigidity of the mainstream politicians. People are clearly pissed off with violent foreign criminals not being deported for a range of reasons. Ideally, the mainstream politicians pretend like the ECHR is a religious text that should be untouched.
If they could actually make some changes to the framework, especially when it comes to violent criminals, it would go a long way in getting back people’s confidence. If they are too rigid for that, people will obviously vote for the radical alternative
If it helps Britain get control again then it must be done. I’m not convinced Farage is the man for the job but someone’s gonna have to.
It’s outdated, unfit for purpose and ripe for abuse by foreign criminals. We should get rid and replace it with British law that protects a reasonable amount of these rights without leaving the doors open for all and sundry.
People act like we didn’t govern ourselves (quite bloody successfully I might add) for a thousand years. We don’t need half century old EU laws interfering with British sovereignty.
People in here getting angry at a title and haven’t read the article.
Benn was specifically about the Good Friday Agreement.
Yet not a single comment (at the time of writing) that mentions Ireland or the Good Friday Agreement. Just people making things up and acting like if we leave the ECHR all of a sudden slavery would be legal in the UK 🤦
He knows what the consequences are, he wants those consequences. He’s trying to emulate his dear Putin and beloved Trump and turn the UK into a tribute to Belarus
Can someone explain Benn’s argument, and explain why the Good Friday Agreement can’t be redrawn?
Benn and the article don’t actually explain why it can’t
>Farage ‘hasn’t got the faintest idea’ of consequences of leaving ECHR, says Benn
Oh, he does. He knows he can’t fully implement Trump’s playbook with those pesky European human rights people blocking him.
This has all been years in the making. First was Brexit, to make us economically dependent on America, then it’s stoking the anti-immigration sentiment to distract working-class people from his plan to sell off the NHS and remove workers’ rights. Then it’s leaving the ECHR so that he can implement mass deportations and internment of foreigners and anybody else who objects to having their rights forcibly stripped away.
The guy is planning to absolutely sell us out to American Christo-Fascist lunatics for his own gain.
It’s worse than that, he does, and he’s going to do it anyway.
Neither do his supporters. Prolly because they cant read it to understand how it helps them.
He’s doing the classic politician trick of saying a lot of things he wont do if he got in to power
These things don’t even have to make sense or be able to work
He’s a grifter full of shit and people are lapping it up
Seemingly. Or maybe it’s convenient for him to play dumb about it.
* Allows you to have an opinion and express it.
* Your right to an education
* Your right to a private and family life
* Your right to not be mistreated by the state
This is the human rights. Your losing all of these if you vote for farage, what this could mean for you:
* The state could flay you because it’s fun.
* We could choose an area of the country and just use them as meat slaves by never teaching them, so they have no choice but to do mental labour.
* The government could open a YouTube channel called Owens bowel movements, and rank who is the most disgusting Owen, and then hang him.
* If you don’t like it, who cares your opinion is illegal now, firing squad – this rabblerouser here.
I want to stop asylum seeking more than you know, more than you do, but this man is not the answer to asylum seekers, immigration, or carte blanche racism.
All he will do is use you for money for the country, and if you don’t tow the party line, KGB style surveillance and problem solving. Just wait until you see how they “normalise” anything that disagrees with them or doesn’t fit their agenda of being British.
Don’t forget these aren’t British values as far as we’re concerned. (They are for him though)
* Video games
* Television
* Time away from work
* Safety
* Security
* Happiness
You’ll work. You’ll have nothing. You’ve have no choice. And you WILL be pleased about it. Because you have no choice.
Sure he does. He’ll get a pat on the head and a biscuit from his daddy Vlad
Trotting out any willing gob you can find to attack Farage really will just make it look like the establishment is scrambling to protect mass and illegal migration at any cost.
I’ve been voting labour my whole life and will be voting for him, as a British person he is doing exactly what all British people want, getting rid of the boats, plus people moaning about brexit, that was ages ago, it doesn’t effect the common person, get over it. Go Nigel
