Prince William and Princess Kate have a plan to promote a “perfect PR image” but it could be at risk if Prince Harry and Meghan Markle move back to the United Kingdom, according to a royal expert.
According to former royal photographer Ian Pelham Turner, if Harry and Meghan return to the UK, it would throw things off for the Waleses.
Pelham Turner told the Daily Express
“Basically what William and Kate are trying to do now, is this perfect PR image, and they’ve started putting out these Mills and Boones type of videos, and yes, it looks very good, he said.
“But if Harry and Meghan come back, William and Kate would be overshadowed,” he added.
It comes amid reports of Harry returning to the UK and resuming his royal duties, even if at a lower tier, or part-time, which is what he had asked for in the first place, according to Jane Barr at From Berkshire to Buckingham.
Harry and Meghan put it in a request to be half in, half out, with Barr saying it was denied because the public wouldn’t be able to differentiate between senior working royals and non-working royals, but at this point, Harry and Meghan have been living in the US for five years, and things have changed.
“In 2020, Harry and Meghan wanted to continue on with actual royal duties. Although they said they were stepping back from being senior royals, they wanted to maintain their royal patronages and represent the Crown on these outings. That was untenable,” Barr said.
“But even if they had pitched a lower tier (which I think they did), where they would be like Beatrice and Eugenie with there private patronages, that, too, was a non-starter, because it would have been impossible for people to distinguish between the two categories of patronages.
“Harry and Meghan would have functionally continued to operate as working royals, and everyone knew that.”
Harry and Meghan can hold their own, which may explain why William and Kate “feel threatened”
According to Barr, it’s been five years and “there’s no confusion,” both the British and American public have an understanding of Harry and Meghan’s standing, in regards to the Royal Family.
And, with that said, the Royal Family may be open to revisiting their initial request of working part-time as a means to bring Harry home, which is reportedly what King Charles is hoping to do.
Barr provides an outline of what this would like and how it could be pulled off.
“Five years have gone by since the Sussexes quit their royal lives, and there is no confusion: they are no longer senior members of the British Royal Family – whatever their fans might say,” she said.
“Harry might feel, if he is smart enough to analyze his way through this, that he could make a return now at that lower tier and actually pull it off, especially if Meghan is nowhere on the scene.”
