The headline is wrong. A 2.8% offer amounts to a 5.2% cut when the rate of inflation is 8%.
What can you do? It isn’t like companies had record profits to pay 10%?…
what’s the betting directors will take much larger rises to reward them for negotiating different times, etc.
Many people could benefit from a hustle mindset to improve their situation, let’s think about billionaire Warren Buffett’s words “There’s class warfare, all right, but it’s my class, the rich class, that’s making war, and we’re winning.”. I think we all need to get grinding.
I got 2% in January to thank me for my hard work, and my boss even mentioned it as benefit to combat the rising cost of living. Handed my notice in for a new job giving a 16% pay rise with further 12.5-25% bonus and he acted like he was shocked when I said money was a factor. They soft countered with 5% and a “promotion” with title to more responsibility. When I said if they’re promoting me and I’d be getting more responsibility I’d need closer to a 30% pay rise to bring me in line with market rate he didn’t seem too pleased.
Will probably be doing the same in 2 years time as well.
I’m getting 3% this month. I’d love to tell them to fuck themselves, because its shit, something like 60 extra a month, but I’ll take what I can get. Not ready to go looking for another job just yet.
Public sector are going to get fuck all so anyone getting 2 percent or more should be grateful.
MPs are only getting 2.7%, which is less than the average.

Yeah we got fuck all so far. Ballots have been sent out so we’re off on strike or action short of strike, that includes other things as well though not just pay rise.
If you work in a unionised workplace, you are more likely to get a higher pay rise. That’s fairly uncommon these days, because employers are under the miss guided believe (and staff who work for them are too) that the company values employees, treat people fairly,, consult regularly, make the company a great place to work…which are all smoke screens for regularly fucking you over, by underpaying you, overworking you, dissregard for your physical and mental well-being, and generally treating you like a “resource” just like the water “resource” used to flush the company toilets !
Seems about right, our place gave 3% to most people, they framed it as not what you probably wanted but really generous which raised a few eyebrows.
Really? Because Mine didn’t and only gave me a raise to £9.5 because it’s legally required to.
I suspect this survey isn’t that accurate and wasn’t extended to all sectors.
So i must be a brilliant employer, my guys went from £10 to £12 an hour.
See how things go and if needed I’ll have to put my product prices up
You don’t get a raise in the private sector unless you job hop.

You don’t get a raise in the NHS fullstop.
