People just getting their own kids killed because of online brain rot is truly horrifying.
How does a free society even begin to deal with it.
Remember when we didn’t have to worry about measles. The age of disinformation is in full force.
I think we should regard not vaccinating your kids as a form of child abuse.
There needs to be more research to learn why vaccine uptake is decreasing. The article loosely implies one or two reasons but isn’t firm about it.
>She added: “The other big problem [for vaccine uptake] is that there are vast inequalities in uptake. We know that uptake is also lower among some ethnic minority groups, notably black Caribbean and African populations.”
>The data reveals stark regional inequalities. While more than 90% of five-year-olds in the north-east of England received both doses of the MMR vaccine, only seven in 10 (69.6%) of eligible Londoners had received the same. Meanwhile, regional uptake of the four-in-one booster ranged from 88.9% in the north-east of the country to 63.8% in London.
My pet theory is that the response to COVID cost the healthcare system a large amount of credibility, but I really only have anecdotal evidence for this.
It shouldn’t be a legal choice. Your made up beliefs don’t get to endanger society as a whole
I think the way the covid vaccine rollout was mishandled is partly to blame.
Edit: downvote all you want, being authoritarian about vaccines makes people reluctant and scared.
Any idea of demographics, or are we just going to blame the far right anti-vaxx boogy man?
People have forgot why we vaccinate. Diseases like measles are not fun and can kill infants, so not vaccinating your child puts them and other kids at risk by reducing herd immunity. Every parent who is vaccine-hesitant becomes pro-vaccination when their kid is hooked up to a ventilator from an illness that could easily have been prevented.
Sadly, dangerous misinformation is getting weaponised. The government needs to take action but as the OSA has proved they’re technologically illiterate.
Half my family have turned into “Bill Gates microchipping the vaccines with 5G emitters to control the weather” nutters now. Not sure how you get back from this position when facts stop mattering and the entire media/social media environment is dedicated to coddling these peoples deranged beliefs.
Seeing people I used to go school with (I’m 30) boasting about not giving their kids any vaccines a few weeks ago. Truly awful stuff what some of these conspiracies have done to people
Unfortunately, sometimes you just have to let dumb people do dumb things. There’s a learning experience to be had and the next generation won’t be so stupid.
It’s such a tough issue.
Do we force these things? Make it illegal not to get them? Charge parents with abuse? That’s probably the right move.
But we’ll be viewed as tyrants in the so doing.
I think the real issue is we’ve abandoned education. So many people don’t get a good one, then reject the notion and declare themselves smarter than the educated. We need more spending in education.
And maybe make podcasts illegal too.
2 words: scarlet fever. Can turn into deadly meningitis and all that. Used to be very deadly for children in the 1850s, same as measles.
So my question is: how do you cope and protect yourself and your dear children against big bad scarlatina. And all the other deadly diseases that have no vaccines for it?
Immune system? Hygiene? Better food, housing and working conditions?
They should be compulsory unless a doctor grants an exception for medical reasons.
