I wanted to buy this scarf from a local brand in my country and bring it back to Germany with me but I am little scared because when worn in a certain way it looks like an 88, specially since the design is an 8-ball-looking weapon. What do you guys think? Could I wear this around in Germany during colder months?

  1. Fashion police will take you to jail, but nobody will give this a Nazi connection.

  2. no… noone will associate that with “88”… not even close, so yes, you can wear it

  3. There is no way anybody would mistake this scarf for a Heil Hitler – HH – 88 cipher

  4. I don’t think there is a big chance that someone will mistake you for a neo-Nazi, regardless of the scarf.

  5. I think it’s pretty cool! Wear it!

It does not look like an 88 at all.

  6. I certainly would read that as Nazi code, especially with the mace-like surroundings.

  7. Contrary to a lot of comments here, if it would fall a certain way and form an 88, I would notice it. Many people wouldn’t raise an eyebrow on that, but there is the possibility that someone confronts you about it.

  8. Don’t. Any weapon symbolism is frowned upon in this political climate.

  9. The double 8 and certain “HH” link connections unfortunately immediately scream “Nazi”. I would suggest rather not wearing it if you don’t want people to make that connection.

  10. people would have to be very pedantic and probably enthusiastic conspiracy theorists to connect this to naziism

  11. While I don’t think most people will automatically take you for a nazi when you wear this, I will say this is exactly the kind of design nazi brands will use to retain plausible deniability while using explicit Nazi symbolism. If you wear it in a way that explicitly puts the two balls side by side you are inviting actual trouble. Even if it wasn’t intended this way by the label, if a fascist sees this he will go “haha that’s awesome” and wear it because of the 88. This happens all the time. Depending on how you wear it, your general style and so on people will have their suspicions. Clubs in Berlin or leftist venues in general might not grant you access or ask you about it or demand you take it off. You WILL at some point be confronted and asked about it, even if it is just jokingly. people saying it’s fine clearly aren’t frequenting politically conscious social circles.

  12. Don’t stress about it. It’s all about Kontext. I would wear it, nice scarf

  13. Nazis do that all the time – they wear stuff which shows their association only when worn in a specific way. See londsdale London. They loved the brand because you can see the letters „nsda“ when worn with a zipper hoodie. Your scarf could display 88 when worn in a specific way and you can see the letter H in it as well. I’d say some nazis and others could interpret this as a sneaky way to display your sympathy to them. If you don’t want to have the remotest chance of being associated with nazis I’d say don’t buy it.

  14. I think it depends on what else you wear. Youre a young artsy and international looking female? Then no one will think youre nazi unless the 8s are really close together like perfectly next to each other
