  2. Netanyahu, in a first for an Israeli PM, said that he recognises the Armenian Genocide — a genocide carried out by Ottoman Turkey against 1.5 million Armenians — as well as the Greek & Assyrian genocides.

    However, the state of Israel does not yet formally recognise it — the statement is welcome, but we need actions, not just words, if he’s actually serious abt this.

    There’s got to be further legislative initiatives.

  3. I am surprised that Israel supports Azerbaijan instead of Armenia. All Azerbaijanis I met were extremely pro-Palestine while the Armenians tend to be more pro-Israel.

  5. When a country recognizes a genocide it usually isn’t just about history it’s about present-day politics.

    Israel’s recognition of the Armenian, Greek, and Assyrian genocides for example can be read in the context of its very tense relationship with Turkey.

    That he acknowledges the suffering of others only to further his agenda.

    An agenda to murder children and butcher families.

  11. The Palestinians living in the West Bank and Gaza are descendents of the original denizens who lived there under Egyptian and Transjordanian control. They fell under Israeli annexation after Egypt and Transjordan lost the 1967 6 Days’ War which their started. Israel has made attempts at finding a political solution wherein these people get a country/region of their own while also addressing Israeli security concerns, but Palestine has torpedoed every discussion.

    To reiterate— **Palestine has historically said it would rather have the current situation than transition to having a state where their potential for further war with Israel is managed.**

    Israel didn’t support Hamas. They didn’t interfere while they gained power. Now you sound extra stupid… you **want** Israel to interfere in Palestinian politics?

    This discussion is over since you just wanna soapbox.

  12. The Assyrians got triple fucked in the past century.

    The Armenian genocide involved the Christian assyrians, so many had to flee throigh the Syrian desserts. (Which took months to cross)

    Some of these people wound up seeking refuge in Palestine. Then, with the 1947 war and mass evictions the immigrated assyirans also had to lose everything once more and flee. Either to a neighboring country like Jordan. (Technically, the west bank at that time)

    Some poor unfortunate assyrian souls also fled into today’s Gaza.

    And now, with the present day war, the same thing happens once more.

    From my ancestors, they had to flee the Ottoman Empire from this genocide. My grandma passed down stories of them setting up Bedouin camps living in the dessert for months. Then my grandma also has some cruel stories and first-hand experience of the mass displacement of her family during the 1947 War. She lost sisters to stray bombs and had to flee into modern-day jordan in the back of a live stock truck.
