  1. If they are that uncomfortable maybe they should only work with male teams.

  2. What a bunch of creeps. I really hope this is one of those stories, that when someone looks into it falls apart and turns out just to be hearsay.

I notice no club is named, and there is not screenshot of the Whatsapp message. At least in the non paywalled version of the story.

  3. What are the odds this will be like other situations where no man was actually uncomfortable and some woman has just decided to use them as scapegoats for her own idea of “decency”.

  4. If they are uncomfortable they should consider some therapy.

  5. It would be cheaper to just buy anyone (allegedly) affected some slightly blurred glasses.

  6. tbf in a sporting context it’s different, as you need to be dressed for optimum physical performance when you’re competing and someone somewhere has worked out that girls need to wear less than boys to achieve that, but some of the short shorts you see girls wearing around town in daily life do seem obscene as casual wear.

Baffles me how people can think walking around town naked would be indecent, but then take their kids out wearing clothes that are basically skin tight underwear.

  7. Remember a few years ago a bunch of male teachers were called pedos in a similar situation, only for it to turn out that nothing wrong had happened. A lot of politicians and journos who were quick to criticise them have been silent about it ever since.

  8. I blame the parents for dressing their kids in sexy GAA shorts. Sure the coaches are only human!

Making them play in jeans would be my solution.

  9. If the coaches are actually thinking like that then they need to be removed from the clubs. Who actually admits this to anyone anyway?

  10. GAA shorts are unflattering on both genders and would look better if they were a bit longer. I seem to remember the Adidas kit Kerry wore for a while in the 1990s had slightly longer shorts and they were nicer than the O’Neills ones.

Back on topic, it’s an odd complaint. Is there something going on here that we don’t know about? Are the players flashing the coaches or something? GAA shorts are GAA shorts. They’re not sexy (I don’t get why they’re suddenly a fashion item) but they’ve been around for years.

  11. GAA putting words in coaches mouths? If I were a coach I’d take them to the cleaners for slander.

  12. I want the short shorts gone as well . It would be nice if they could make them longer .It’s so weird to put on GAA shorts in comparison to the ones I use for soccer . The GAA shorts are too short for everyone.

  13. “Ladies! You have to stop showing your arse in those skorts. (Lowers voice to a whisper) You’re making John uncomfortable, not me though I’m grand it’s just John was saying…Well not saying per se, it’s just he seems weirdly turned on by the looks of him but not me though” GAA smiled as he remembered the shocked look on the girls faces as he jerked off that night.

  14. This exact same thing happened a few years ago in a Carlow school where apparently male teachers were uncomfortable with teenage girls wearing leggings or something. Some ‘journalist’ picked it up and ran with the story and then people like Hazel Chu were tweeting about it.

And lo and behold it amounted to nothing more than Chinese whispers between students which a parent heard and was outraged and thus it go to the media. Apparently boys were good for wearing the uniforms but the girls were not, so girls were spoken to to start wearing their uniforms and some students put 2 and 2 together to come up with 5 and create outrage.

  15. GAA needs to wake up. Who are they to tell girls what to wear?

  16. There’s a massive difference between women’s gymwear and men’s gymwear. Some of the shorts are ridiculous.
The short ones tend to ride up as well and are really uncomfortable.

  17. Creepy men at the sidelines watching teen girls bodies, instead of the sport. They should be banned from the club. Guaranteed if this was said by men about teen boys, those men would never be allowed set foot in the clubhouse again

  18. I’m skeptical of this story. But regardless I do enjoy how the GAA wanted them wearing skorts, and now their shorts are too short. They’ll have em in a thick ass pair of grey cotton joggers before the season is out at this rate.

  19. Assuming there’s any truth in this, which isn’t a given since it’s been blown up from nothing, with male teachers subjected to abuse for other people’s projecting. The view here would appear to be any male coaches must be paedophiles for not wanting to be put in situations where people could potentially accuse them of being paedophiles for being around girls wearing shorter shorts.

Classic damned if you do and damned if you don’t mentality. I’d have thought the number of people immediately calling them perverts should actually tell people why male coaches MIGHT not want to be in this situation. Again if it’s actually true which is still yet to be proven.

  20. If it was a Ladies Football team then it was probably an LGFA club, not a GAA one. God forbid that journalists would learn that Camogie and LGFA are separate to the GAA.

  21. Surely one can be uncomfortable with someone wearing a tragic pair of short shorts without it being a sexual thing? I think fat people in skin tight tights makes me uncomfortable but I definitely don’t want to bang them!

  22. As a parent myself, I really don’t understand why parents are comfortable with their young daughters dressing like prostitutes out and about. Like, what’s the deal with that?

  23. This triggers me BIG TIME. In a world where we try to teach our girls (and boys) “it wasn’t your fault” and “it wasn’t because of how you were dressed” we then go and pull this shit. It infuriates me.

  24. I think we’ve heard this story before …… I’d say a little more investigation needs done
