August the 29th, 2025 – Zagreb Museum Weekend promises a weekend full of culture in the bustling Croatian capital, which is home to an impressive number of museums – from the classic to the ultra-quirky.

Zagreb is a city that is positioning itself strongly on all kinds of tourism maps, particularly the health and city break type. One thing you’ll basically be falling over when you come to Zagreb is museums. There are so many of them dotted all over the city that you’ll have a hard time seeing them all. From the amazing Nikola Tesla Technical Museum and the Zagreb City Museum to the famous Museum of Hangovers and the Museum of Broken Relationships, museums in the Croatian capital seem to cover all possible topics of interest.

For the ultra-niche out there, there’s even a museum dedicated entirely to mushrooms. Without turning this article into an entire novel, trust us when we tell you that the list of quirky and specific museums goes on (and on a bit more!)

It therefore makes perfect sense to dedicate an event solely to museums in the Croatian capital, and we’re sure that it will be popular among locals and visitors alike.

a new event celebrating zagreb’s abundance of culture

The Zagreb Museum Weekend is a brand new cultural event that, for the first time, will bring together the city’s museums in a joint multi-day programme. It was launched at the initiative of the City Office for Culture and Civil Society, with the support of the Zagreb Tourist Board from September the 4th to the 7th.

Conceived as an event with the potential to become a new landmark on Zagreb’s already enviable cultural calendar, the Zagreb Museum Weekend reflects the goals outlined in the City’s Cultural Development Programme, embodying its vision: a culture that creates the city – a city that lives culture.

It’s also the ideal weekend for those who appreciate well-thought-out and well-rounded stories. The rich programme of the Zagreb Museum Weekend will bring all kinds of exhibitions, expertly led tours, workshops, thematic panels and cultural walks at numerous locations throughout the city. The best part? Admission to all events part of the Zagreb Museum Weekend is free.

the zagreb museum weekend programme

As stated above, there are so many museums all over Zagreb that it’s easy to lose count of them all. You can therefore imagine just how packed this year’s programme actually is, so instead of attempting to run all over the city to each museum, why not plan your “attack” here? Beginning on Thursday the 4th of September and stretching until Sunday the 7th, we can guarantee you’ll find plenty to keep your mind interested in many of the museums taking part. If you need to map out a route to get the best out of the weekend, look no further.
