I mean maybe shouldn’t have held illegal parties then? Just a thought…..
We can only hope but I think given the polling its unlikely.
Yes, breaking the law, lying about it, defending the lying, and then shitting on nurses and teachers, isn’t going to endear you to a lot of voters.
Not the point I know, but I love that photo so much. I’d better see it on a birthday card next year
Doubt it,despite every dreadful decision, every shocking action….they have “but it would be worse under Labour” ingrained onto there Daily Mail thick minds
I can’t believe this is what you guys are upset about the most with your corrupt clown PM.
At this point shouldn’t you just give back all the hoarded stuff in your museums, set your nukes off on fault lines around the island, and just Brexit the face of earth… Atlantis style!
Oh look, it’s the consequences of my actions…
I’m not sure they can repeat their new magic words – ‘senior tories criticise…’ and ‘very unconservative’ – enough to sway the public, but they’re certainly trying.
Traditional conservative voter here. Yes, partygate is the final straw. I can’t vote for a party so morally bankrupt again. It’s no longer about my views on how best to run a society and economy, it’s about basic human decency. People were dying alone, the whole country was making massive sacrifices and this lot, who made the rules and stood in front of the TV cameras every day telling us to obey them thought that the rules didn’t apply to them. I’m not alone, the Conservatives are about to be destroyed when they next go to the poles. I can only hope that from the ashes a better and more moral politics will rise, but I doubt it..
Dunno how the average person could vote for such crooks in the first place
That is an amazing picture to go with the headline.
They don’t need to fear. Most Tory voters won’t desert them at all
I am really not surprised they don’t give a flying proverbial about people in this country nor have they ever!
The Guardian hopes traditional voters will desert the Conservative Party after partygate.
And they’re right. The Tories are going get crushed at the next election and I’m a conservative
My understanding is that, from a psychological perspective, if a person sees someone in a position of authority behaving dishonestly or irresponsibly and getting away with it, then that person is far more inclined to behave similarly. This is why our leaders must be honest, reasonable and aware of the impact of their behaviour. If we apply this to the current Govt, the PM and Chancellor of the Exchequer should resign and not be allowed to hold high office. Anyone who supports them should be considered as ‘cut from the same cloth’.
If people consider a party as a few people stood around for 10 minutes with a cake that doesn’t leave a box, your life has little going on. I don’t think people really give a shit about party gate, more so the ridiculous rules in the first place.
There are multiple reasons to abandon them and kick them out, but the parties should be an extra eye opener.
Since Brexit and throughout the Pandemic, the Tories have constantly been filling their pockets as much as they can, broken rules/laws, and lived by their own version of rules (aka no rules) and barely got punished for it, while everyone else suffered and got fined way more.
I’ve only managed to vote twice (neither time Conservative), but these last few years have been a massive eye opener showing what type of people they are. Doesn’t matter if Johnson goes or not, I will never be voting Conservative (mainly because they forced through Brexit when it wasn’t legally required, screwing up my life – and the fact they’re a bunch of money grabbing criminals).
Tough… they screwed up and there should be consequences… if the police won’t do it, the voters should.
Saw my traditionally Tory grandfather reading a copy of the socialist the other day
Imagine the parties CORBYN would have had!!! We would all still be LOCKED in because of covid!!! We wouldn’t win the WAR in Ukraine and anyway he would be on the RUSSIAN side!!!! Do you want to see a THREE day week again???????
At least Boris doesn’t have parties with TERRORIST’S !!!!!!!
After speaking to my parents this weekend, labour and ebery other party is “probably as bad”. So sadly the tories are incorrect, people are still stupid enough to keep voting for them
What? You mean people may not vote for those displaying a lack of integrity and no acceptable moral standard? Who would have thought it?
Ramp up the anti European or immigrant messaging and they will forget. Or rail against perceived anti semitism in the Labour Party by dusting off the old Corbyn articles.
The sheep are easily led.
I hope they do desert them. But this feels like such a minor thing compared to the never ending omnishambles of fuck ups this party has already produced.
Maybe they could try holder the leader of the party up to tye standards the rest of them expect of others
Somehow with all the fuck ups, still have little faith in Labour.
Dont ask me how, but somehow they will still fuck this is up. They just will.
nah you’ll be fine, not like people don’t know all politicians are lying, thieving scumbags who don’t think rules or laws apply to them
Well, if you aren’t going to toss out the partygoers yourselves….
I’ll never truly understand why people vote for parties as if they’ve picked their team for life. It’s not a sport! You should reconsider who you vote for EVERY TIME! I appreciate that Conservatives, Labour Lib Dems etc. Stand for something but if the leaders and MPs change what policies they will introduce to gain the smaller percentage of floating voters just imagine what we could achieve with massive numbers of floating voters.
Personally I see it as disrespecting your privilege to be able to vote.
I doubt they will. Had a conversation the other day where 10 people were all amazed at the limited fines given whilst the students were getting £5,000. One of the group was adamant that they didn’t hold any parties it was just a work event, it only lasted 5 minutes, they were all socially distanced and we all broke rules so why are we concerned with them.
When brought up that regardless of the duration etc they shouldn’t be above their own rules we were met with ‘that uneducated idiot in labour wouldn’t have done anything for the country in the same position’ and we’ve all swallowed the tabloid lies about the tories.
As a traditional voter all I can say is…. byeeeeeee
It’s wishful thinking for those that want this country to be run in a responsible manner but these people once they get to the booth will be anyone but Labour, as such tories will sneak in again
Couldn’t care less about the parties!
I never followed the stupid rules either.
So on one hand I am all on board for the idea of less people voting Tory
But also if the **REASON** people are suddenly not supporting this regime is “they had a party” then **fuck me. They were seriously okay with the rest of it???**
Letting children starve is fine, destroying the NHS is fine, worst covid policy in the world is fine, deliberately drowning regugees is fine, siding with oil execs in the middle of a cost of living crisis is fine… **BUT HOW GODDAM DARE THEY HAVE A PARTY.**
Universally speaking – I dream of a world where voters are not scared of “those others not winning”.
If these traditional voters have any sense, they will
It’s only the media and labour voters who care about “partygate”. All the way through lockdowns all I saw were the same people who are outraged now doing whatever they wanted still having their own parties (remember ve day) and visiting friends. The only losers really were the ones who couldn’t visit people under nhs care.
Its astonishing that they think anyone cares about Partygate when we have 10% inflation, non-functioning services, unaffordable housing, utility and council tax bills in the triple digits monthly and untenable wages ..
Senior conservatives should fear being cannibalised by the public when we run out of food.
traditional voters are idiots if Partygate is the reason that they decide not to vote for the Conservatives
its been such a bullshit government. the idea you’d want them still in power if Partygate wasn’t a thing is ridiculous
