As a non-Hungarian, I made an analysis of why Orban keeps winning, even after 10+ years of dismantling the Hungarian democracy and turning the country into a Russian trojan horse. I’d be really curious to know if the folks on this sub would agree with my take or if you think it’s completely off.

My impression is, that he is so successful because of keeping the countryside underdeveloped. We have to understand that, Hungary was under Soviet occupation until the end of the 80’s, and we were left with crippled economy.
Having that, it’s just a well accepted fact in the society, that we are poor af, won’t be anytime soon close to the Western part of Europe. If they really wanted to do something with the country, they would have been able to with the amount of resources we got from the EU. And I believe it’s kept this way by purpose, so he can buy off these people close to the elections or by other short term programs, which benefits the people.
In the latest elections, 20 000 volunteers by the opposition helped out during the elections to count the votes. The common observation was the same. The opposition just can’t get any message out to them or they just don’t care. Fighting corruption? Please, you tell this to a post socialist community, which is living under illiberal leadership for 10+ years? It won’t bother the majority of people, because the reality there is to survive paycheck after paycheck. And Orbán can effectively capitalize these struggles for his own party’s advantage.
To support his case, he holds every local media in his hands, the only way people can reach independent media, is to search online. But now, they are also effectively fighting them, by funding their “independent media’.
Just a comment on the young, educated folks, who also support Orbán. Don’t forget, that they got educated under his leadership

– In the video, you completely ignore the point, that this country still have the path / choice to don’t make the same mistakes that the West has made in the last 2-3 decades, and is now suffering from.
– We both know that the Western world can’t undo the decisions has been made. They are envy of that, we may be able to not “enrich” our everyday life. They can’t allow anyone else to choose another path, as it would show how self-destructive their way are. But if every country does the same social-economic policies? Then the west can say that the consequences we see are “normal”.
Even you, as a simple, normal person subconsciously don’t wish to allow another country to choose another path as the West had done.
