August the 30th, 2025 – Split and Belgrade are set to be connected with year-round flights as of October this year, with both Air Serbia and Split Airport recording fantastic numbers.

As Sinisa Malus/Poslovni Dnevnik writes, Air Serbia is expanding its seasonal summer operations between Belgrade and Split to a year-round service of flights as of October this year. Flights will continue to operate twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays, after October the 26th.

Tickets for winter flights from Belgrade to Split can now be purchased via the airline’s website. This is a testament to the increased interest of Serbian tourists from the higher spending category in Dalmatia and Croatia as a whole.

Around 4.7 million passengers

Air Serbia has signed contracts to add five aircraft to its fleet during the upcoming winter season.

“They will arrive in the next few months and include two additional Embraers and three Airbus A320s,” noted Air Serbia CEO Jiri Marek. At the same time, EX-YU Aviation News has learned that three Airbus A319s are expected to be retired in the same period. The first, registered YU-APK, is due to make its last flight for the airline at the end of next month, marking the start of Air Serbia’s strategy to phase out its A319 fleet.

Despite a slight drop in passenger numbers in July, Air Serbia remains confident that it will surpass JAT Yugoslav Airlines’ passenger record from 1987. Marek is confident of that. “We’re quite confident that we’ll surpass JAT’s previous record from 1987, when 4.5 million passengers were carried. Last year we carried 4.4 million, and now we estimate around 4.7 million this year, which is a six percent increase. We’re currently hovering around five percent, so we’ll definitely surpass JAT’s record, but our goal is to reach 4.7 million.”

As for profitability, the CEO noted that it is still too early to give exact figures, as all airlines usually perform well during the peak summer months, but the confirmed results so far are in line with last year’s record profitability.

split airport’s numbers

Split Airport recorded a total of 786,945 passengers in July this year, surpassing the previous record of 770,502 passengers in July 2024. This made July 2025 the busiest month in the history of Split Airport, confirming its role as a key destination during the summer season.

In the first seven months of 2025, a total of 2,107,357 passengers passed through Split Airport, clearly showing strong growth compared to the previous year, and another record year is expected. July traditionally stands out as the strongest month for Split’s air traffic due to the peak of the summer tourist season and the increased number of charter and scheduled flights to all kinds of popular European destinations, writes Croatia Aviation.

In the first two weeks of August, 3.5 percent more passengers passed through Split Airport than in the same period last year. The company expects more than 740,000 passengers to pass through the airport in August, which will be the highest passenger traffic in August in the history of Split Airport. Split Airport recently announced that it expects between 3.7 and 3.8 million passengers by the end of the year.
