Most Trump tariffs ruled illegal in blow to White House trade policy

1. SS: A federal appeals court ruled Friday that most of President Donald Trump’s global tariffs are illegal, striking a massive blow to the core of his aggressive trade policy.

   The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit ruled that the law Trump invoked when he granted his most expansive tariffs does not actually grant him the power to impose those levies.

   Trump is all but certain to appeal the ruling to the Supreme Court. The appellate court paused its ruling from taking effect until Oct. 14, in order to give the Trump administration time to ask the Supreme Court to take up the case.

   The White House did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment on the ruling.

   I hear a federal appeals court just struck down wearing white after Labor Day, but only by Melania Trump.

4. This was always going to happen. The tariffs were pushed through under a legal argument that never really made sense and everyone who followed trade law knew it was only a matter of time before the courts took it apart. What strikes me is how many people thought this kind of move was going to be permanent. The president has power on trade but it is not unlimited, and if you try to stretch the law too far the courts will slap it down. The economic side of it was messy too. We saw higher costs for businesses and consumers while the supposed benefits never really showed up. Farmers needed bailouts, supply chains shifted, and American workers did not suddenly see their jobs return just because tariffs went up. Now the legal foundation is collapsing and the policy looks even weaker in hindsight.

   I expect Trump will try to push this to the Supreme Court but honestly it feels like damage control at this point. Even if he delays the ruling the uncertainty is already there and trading partners will not take these kinds of measures seriously in the future.

5. He will ignore the court. Doesn’t matter. No one will stop him.

6. So if your tariffs are ruled illegal, nullifying them, are you still able to keep the grift money from them that feeds into your account? That is the real question..joking. just joking..we already know he gets to keep it…..but wait……..now that they are illegal, he can set up new attempts, allowing another funding round to happen…milk that cow that is the population. It has more milk to give and a billionaire has the room to store it and then sell it off, keeping a tiny cut of all the revenue created…that cow aint dry yet.

   what do I know though, I am just around the wealthy and powerful every day.
