Rev Richard Coles: Church of England increasingly ‘excluding’ gay couples

  1. A lot of the church is being taken in by resources, money and ideas from US Puritans. From trivial like Halloween to important stuff like homosexaulity

  2. I wonder if it’s anything to do with the decrease in people being religious. The moderates are those that drop away leaving you with the stricter factions.

  3. I picked up his book ‘The Madness of Grief’ last year and it was both funny and sad. Anybody who’s gone through a bereavement will find so much of it relatable, would recommend. Hopefully he has a good retirement!

  4. At its heart Christianity is against homosexuals. He chooses to ignore it to take part in Christianity, but being gay and being Christian are fundamentally incompatible.

So Reverend, you’re lying to yourself.

  5. Richard, why your surprise? You well know, your Christianity, along with Judaism and Islam, has long persecuted homosexuals and, now, with your Anglican Evangelicals in the ascendancy will continue increasingly to do so and with vigour.

Your Church of England does some things well: coronations, the Cenotaph service, state funerals, Kings College carols and readings. But, otherwise, you are something of an irrelevance, for rarely, if ever, do you speak truth to power; propound public morality, demand the fulfilment of the Sermon on the Mount. But, then, neither do the Chief Rabbi and the British leaders of Islam, so you have company in your inadequacies.

But The Daily Telegraph! Really, Richard.

  6. This guy is so fucking annoying on his BBC4 Radio show. Hes a complete attention whore and incredibly creepy. He may well be right but I take anything he says with an enormous pinch of salt because hes obviously much more focused on his career as a celebrity vicar than anything else.
