PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — American Chestnut Land Trust (ACLT) is hosting its annual Sip and Save event on Friday, Sept. 6, from 1 to 5 p.m. The event will take place at the North Side Trailhead at 676 Double Oak Road, Prince Frederick.

The event features a range of beers, ales and ciders for people to sample, as well as some nonalcoholic beer options. Event-goers can also enjoy live music from the band 2-4-U, barbecue from local caterer Dream Weaver, take part in raffles and games, or buy flowers from Double Oak Farms.

For $20 a ticket, you can get six tasting glasses and a souvenir glass, with the option to buy more tasting tickets a la carte. The rain date for the event is Sunday, Sept. 7.

True to its sustainability focus, the event will only feature beers local to the Chesapeake Bay region. Organizers have sourced breweries from up and down the watershed, from Pennsylvania to Virginia. Attendees will get to sample 35 variants from 16 different breweries.

The Sip and Save event is in its eighth year. While the event does raise some funds for the trust, community relations manager Miriam Gholl said this event serves to bring people to the site and get them interested in the mission.

“It’s all to raise awareness of what ACLT does and bring people here who haven’t been here before,” she said. “It helps people see what we do and celebrates what we’ve accomplished.”

Gholl added that organizers were excited for people to discover everything they have to offer and how they can use this incredible outdoor space right here in the county.

ACLT was founded in 1986 and maintains more than 26 miles of trails, which are open free to the public year-round. The ACLT and its partners have preserved more than 3,800 acres of land in the Parkers Creek and Governors Run watersheds, providing educational, scientific, recreational and cultural purposes. The organization offers guided hikes, canoe trips and events throughout the year.

The organization also offers many ways to get involved if you’re ready to go beyond enjoying the great outdoors. It’s a member- and donor-supported nonprofit and does not receive government funding. Events like this are vital to raising money to support the trust’s services and for raising awareness so people can continue enjoying the land they’ve worked so hard to preserve.
