Ireland yet to take 500 Ukrainian refugees from Moldova

  1. Well we’ve already taken 20,000-odd refugees, so essentially ( due to lack of accommodation ) doubled our homeless pop ( presuming the residency plans don’t work out ). 500 odd people won’t make a difference, sadly.

  2. Moldova is depopulated, suffering heavily with inflation, and very poor, we should be sending them a billion+ so they can prop up their economy, fund refugees, and help them defend themselves.

Of course with nearly 100k refugees, they must be coming close to their limit, but I wonder would money not help more than taking refugees off their hands given how much unused accommodation they must have.

As far as I can tell, the EU has only provided them with €240 million in the past few months, that’s only 2% of GDP, not ideal in terms of ensuring they’re able to manage this crisis and continue a pro-EU outlook.
